Monitoring made Simple Lee-Dickens Micro RTU and Web Based Internet Service

L

ee-Dickens has for more than 30 years provided remote monitoring telemetry

and SCADA systems and services. Historically these have been closed systems and, for some applications, still are. However, in a large number of cases, the simplest monitoring solution is to provide a secure web site that clients can access using an internet browser from any PC, tablet or mobile. And the simplest way of gathering that data is to have an RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) that can be installed by the client. The Micro RTU, as its name suggests, is a small, robust and easy to use device. It needs no auxiliary power supply being battery powered and taking the power it needs to re-charge the batteries from the 4 to 20mA input loop of the transducer it is monitoring.

It communicates using the Mobile Data Network and can be configured using a mobile phone. Once configured, the Micro RTU monitors the

input signal and sends a text message alert when any alarm limit is breached. The user can also request live updates of the current input by sending a text message to the RTU. Lee-Dickens also offers a Data Centre Service. We operate a suite of computers with a communication infrastructure allowing for communications with the Web Based subscription RTUs. The SitewatchTM

servers manage the data

from the field and automatically post the information onto your secure password protected Web pages. Our service provides complete protection, by sending Emails and Text alerts 24/7 to the client’s desired list of contacts. The secure web pages will be constructed by our software team and will contain mimics of your silos, tanks or whatever you happen to be monitoring plus graphs showing recent usage. The graph is plotted from logs made at the RTU and the frequency of the updates can be tailored to meet the client’s requirements. The web page will always contain the time and date of the last update, which, as standard, takes place every hour.
