Industry gold T

ETIM is the tried and tested data standard for technical product data, existing with the purpose of helping B2B customers fi nd and choose products. EW editor Bryony Andrews caught up with a few key electrical industry fi gures to get their take on why search-friendly product data is so vital in today’s trade landscape.

he ETIM data model was started in the Netherlands in 1991, and is now used by more than 20 countries, including the UK, where it was adopted by the Electrical Distributors’ Association (EDA) in 2017 for electrotechnical products. The focus of EDATA, the “by the industry,

for the industry data pool”, is to give electrical wholesalers access to high quality product data to use in every aspect of their business: from displaying accurate images on a quote and driving general business systems, to creating catalogues and answering customer queries at all stages of the sales process.

Defi ne: ETIM

ETIM is an international product data model – a classifi cation or structure – it is not a database.

EDATA is an industry-owned, central pool of high quality, ecommerce friendly, manufacturers’ product data for electrical wholesalers to use in their websites and digital business processes. It includes manufacturers’ master data, digital assets and technical data classifi ed according to the international ETIM standard.
