InstallationNews Ealing Council and FireAngel T

announce pioneering IoT partnership One of Europe’s leading smoke, heat and carbon monoxide (CO) alarm suppliers, FireAngel, has agreed a partnership with Ealing Council in conjunction with CEF to deliver one of the largest IoT roll outs of its kind currently available in the UK.

he ground-breaking contract will see the supply of FireAngel’s advanced

connected technology, FireAngel Spec Connected, which will cost effectively provide Ealing Council with a remote monitoring solution that ensures maximum levels of fire and CO detection for its tenants. Ealing Council will oversee the supply and installation of over 122,000 smoke, heat and CO alarms across an initial 14,000 of 17,000 properties located throughout West London, whilst also benefitting from FireAngel’s patented Predict™ technology, which will highlight trends and high- risk patterns of behaviour to prompt earlier intervention before an actual fire event. After an initial trial period, FireAngel’s affordable

yet adaptable Specification Range was chosen due to its remote monitoring capabilities and compliance with an LD1 Category specification, which subsequently futureproofs all properties against any regulatory changes in the years ahead. FireAngel’s battery-powered Specification Range smoke, heat and CO alarms, supported by a

FireAngel Connected Gateway, will be installed in each of the initial 14,000 properties, with the alarms exclusively supplied by CEF through the Procurement for Housing framework. FireAngel and Ealing Council have together

developed a bespoke recyclable cardboard ‘kit pack’ that contains no plastic waste, significantly reducing the amount of packaging materials the installer needs to dispose of when during the installation process. The packs contain FireAngel’s battery-powered Specification Range of smoke, heat and CO alarms, which will be installed across Ealing Council’s housing stock in line with an LD1 Category specification. As the alarms are wirelessly interlinked across a

secure private network, the technology will allow Ealing Council to easily monitor and manage the status of the alarms in real time, highlighting any potential issues as and when they occur. FireAngel’s Specification Range enables continuous monitoring of fire and CO safety devices within domestic properties via a central, secure cloud based system. Featuring Smart RF

technology, the range of mains and battery- powered alarms supports the interlink of up to 50 devices together on a wireless network by fitting a Smart RF module.

The devices include smoke, heat, CO alarms and

assisted living solutions, which can be interlinked via a private network so that when one alarm sounds, they all sound. This also immediately notifies tenants of a potential fire or CO event, providing a faster response time that allows individuals to safely and quickly exit the property.

National Ventilation, a leading UK-based ventilation manufacturer and supplier, has launched its popular Monsoon Shower Extract Fans in kit form providing a one-box solution for a super-fast installation.

D

esigned to make both electricians and electrical wholesalers’ lives easier, there are now two new boxed-

everything required for a super-fast install, both kits contain a 100mm UMD100T mixed flow in- line fan, 6m of PVC flexible ducting, an external fixed grille and cable ties. The Monsoon Shower Extract Kit also contains two internal diffusers, while the Monsoon Showerlite LED Extract Kit features an LED light and two air diffusers. Both types of diffuser come with a choice of white and chrome covers meaning the fan can be matched to a household’s décor. As UK-manufactured premium-build fans both kits also come with a 5- year warranty. As a one-box solution the new kit form also simplifies things for electrical wholesalers.

Previously the parts needed to install the Monsoon Shower Extract fans were sold and ordered separately, but with the new kit option everything is in one box. For counter staff this means they no longer need to go back and forth from the warehouse to find all the different parts required for an install while their customer waits – a time saving for both the wholesaler and the electrician. Made in the UK, the Monsoon Shower Fan kits combine high extract performance of up to 198m3/h with power consumption as low as 17- 19W and low noise levels of just 28dB(A) on low speed. The fans are IPX4-rated so can be safely

installed in the splash zone. Both kits feature a two-speed motor with the option of overrun timer from 2 to 30 minutes, with the Monsoon Shower Fans’ motor is equipped with Standard Thermal Overload Protection for extra safety. Meanwhile, the Monsoon Showerlite LED Extract Kit also features LED technology offering low- energy illumination which uses 3W of energy compared to standard dichroic lamps which use 20W. Offering install flexibility, the 100mm fans are

easy to retrofit in existing bathroom as well as for new builds. The 6m of flexible PVC ducting enables electricians to adapt the installation to any size room.
