ECA announces a range of industry webinars

Future of electrical apprenticeships safe, says SECTT

T

he Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT) has reassured the industry that electrical apprenticeships

and training are in safe hands following the introduction of a range of emergency measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. As well as offering ongoing help and guidance to all apprentices,

SECTT is working closely with the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB), SELECT and colleges across Scotland to support the collective efforts of employers and colleges throughout the current crisis. Anne Galbraith, CEO of SECTT,

A

range of webinars covering coronavirus business issues and technical topics was launched by leading engineering services

trade body ECA. The series kicked off with the first #ECATechnicalTuesdays on Tuesday 14

April, and covered the 1st Amendment of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations, which concerns electric vehicle charge points. Technical Tuesdays, which is exclusive to ECA Members, will run initially for a period of 6 weeks. ECA continued its regular coronavirus impact webinars, which are open to the industry, with a discussion led by Vicki Leslie of ECIS on mental wellbeing, and Martin Hewes, wjho discussed the economic impact on construction. ECA director of CSR & communications Paul Reeve stated: “ECA’s ongoing

coronavirus impact webinar series is playing a key role in helping the industry to respond to the many, and often fast moving, challenges presented by the current emergency. The ECA expert team and guests cover the key issues – such as furlough and getting access to Government support – in comprehensive detail.” Details of all webinars are at www.eca.co.uk/events under the ‘Events’ tab.

said: “We know these are unprecedented times, but we are doing all we can to help apprentices continue with their studies through alternate channels, while maintaining the high standards required. The Electrical Installation Modern Apprenticeship is a vocational qualification and has safety implications, so we must ensure competency throughout the course, especially in the ‘Key Safety Critical’ areas. Therefore, SECTT will be looking to complete the coursework as near to normal as possible, but this will depend on when we return to free movement.” Galbraith concluded: “When we do get back to normal, I can assure

all apprentices that SECTT and the colleges will continue with the professional level of care to ensure we catch up with least disruption.”
