Soſtware

Sourcing the right Warehouse Management System

Business soſtware can help drive growth and efficiency for electrical wholesale businesses, but with a wealth of options on the market, it can be difficult to know where to start. Before you begin an online search, Jon Roberts, senior sales manager at OrderWise, shares his top five pointers to help you find soſtware that will let your business grow.

1. Don’t believe everything you hear A

s a sales manager, I regularly meet with business owners who have fallen victim to the strain of managing their operations with an unsuitable piece of soſtware.

It’s often the case that a person within a business is tasked with finding

software that ticks all the boxes, and naturally, this person will seek out recommendations from professionals within the industry. When they hear the names of the top dogs and find them at the top of the search engine, it appears that they are the most reputable provider and therefore, the safest option for the business to pursue. However, every business is different and what might work for one business, certainly isn’t guaranteed to work perfectly for another. The business could find that the system isn’t doing what is required for their operation, causing them to implement new practices to work around it - defeating the object of what the software has been installed to do. No business should spend money on a product and still have to jump through hoops.

areas of a business, so you need to decide what departments would benefit from a helping hand. Electrical wholesalers tend to sway towards a Warehouse Management

System (WMS) which comprises features that control and administer the operations within the physical warehouse. You could also consider an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, which is ideal for looking at processes and the back-office functions. This is great if you need help with the likes of human resources and day-to-day administration.

3. Look for quality in a WMS A person on the hunt for business software can often be dazzled by the enthusiasm of professionals discussing the impact their software has had
