IndustryNews Bureau Veritas calls for better EV chargepoint maintenance

robust installation, inspection and maintenance programme is key to ensuring chargepoints are compliant, always available, and fully functional for end customers. In February, the UK government announced it will bring in new regulations that will require

charging point operators (CPO) to meet a minimum 99% availability standard as an average across their entire fleet of chargepoints. The proposed regulations comes as statistics from Zap-Map show that in August 2019 around 8% of public chargepoints were out of service – most commonly due to malicious damage such as vandalism, software malfunction within the chargepoint or hardware malfunction due to wear and tear. According to Bureau Veritas’, which works with charge point operators in several different sectors, some of the key areas for consideration include cybersecurity risk, grid code compliance as well as repairs and components management.

Kitemarked systems offer data protection assurance for IoT products

improve the security of IoT products is not due to become law until later in 2021. Stocking and recommending products certified against the BSI IoT Kitemark can help electrical wholesalers give security installers and their customers confidence that both property and data are protected to the highest standard, said home security specialist ERA in a recent release. The BSI Kitemark certification for Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices provides independent

verification of the cybersecurity of camera and alarm systems. ERA worked in close collaboration with BSI to develop the standard and set a performance benchmark for the growing smart security sector. Kerry Blackford, head of product at ERA, said: “Data security and user privacy have been enduring concerns

for homeowners since app-controlled cameras and video doorbells first entered the UK market. Householders absolutely recognise the convenience and peace of mind that connected devices can bring, but they rightly seek reassurance that their data (as well as their property) will be protected.”
