Front End | News SICK’s distance sensor an ‘all-rounder’ S F
ICK has launched its next-generation OD2000 distance sensor, combining high-precision reliability with economy to deliver a versatile ‘all-rounder’ for multiple applications in electronics production. The stand-alone and compact SICK OD2000 has been developed to provide a universal product family with minimal variants, while making configuration and parameterisation ‘plug and play’. With IO-Link as standard, the SICK OD2000 offers highly-versatile machine integration possibilities, while providing for diagnostics and condition monitoring. With a large measuring range up to 1,200mm, as well as a measuring frequency of up to 7.5 kHz, the OD2000 can be used for wide-ranging positioning and quality control tasks in automated production and
assembly, including robotics. Using its high-precision triangulation measurement principle, the OD2000 achieves high repeatability and linearity, and it can detect the smallest differences in height, even in the micrometre range.
With five different measuring ranges between 25 and 1,200 mm, the SICK OD2000 is ready to master any task, including demanding, high-speed measurement regardless of surface, diameter, thickness or width. It can also solve challenging background suppression applications where precise distance differentiation or small hysteresis settings are required.

arnell, an Avnet Company and global distributor of electronic components, products and solutions, has officially reopened its global head office after completing in excess of £6m of improvement works over 12 months. As a result, up to 500 Farnell employees returning to the premises in Leeds, UK now enjoy facilities with significantly enhanced sustainability credentials, including energy delivered from 100 per cent renewable sources, zero waste going to landfill and space for 40 electric vehicles to be charged on-site per day. As well as upgraded environmental features throughout, the building now benefits from better lighting, fresh air ventilation and roof insulation, as well as having zonal
temperature control ensuring comfortable working conditions all year round. In addition, access throughout the site has been amended to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, including the installation of a new lift allowing wheelchair access between floors and new washroom facilities located on each floor.
The global head office also now provides flexible functional hubs and collaborative spaces, while a balcony area offers the opportunity to work outside when the weather allows.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin, Councillor James Lewis, Leader of Leeds City Council, Leeds City Council CEO Tom Riordan and Maxine Smeaton, CEO of Farnell’s
charity partner Epilepsy Research UK, officially declared the Canal Road reopen on 6th September 2022.
