it is understandable that all parties in the electronic components supply network will concentrate their attention on the items that represent most value and are therefore of greatest strategic importance. Procurement professionals are indeed focussing their attention on “A” and “B” -class parts but in the very unstable global economy we are currently living through, I can almost guarantee it will be availability of an inexpensive “C” -class component that will cause them the most pain.
In conclusion
The recent “panic buying” and increases in multiple ordering of some semiconductor and passive components is going to increase the pain across the supply network and will result in customers being “stocked to the gunnels”, with expensive components that will take years to get consumed, or eventually written off and scrapped.

partners in the electronic components supply network to actively and positively engage with all of their partners, both up and down their supply network. A greater focus on identifying and honestly reporting “real” customer demand rather than artificially inflating order books, will go a long way towards mitigating current problems and minimising the exposure of all to higher levels of risk.
