Distribution Distribution news

Insight SiP, a vendor of miniature RF modules with embedded antennas, based on “System in Package” technologies, announced the signature of a distribution agreement with Steliau Technology, distributor of electronic components in the French market. This new agreement allows Steliau Technology to enlarge its portfolio by proposing RF modules with integrated antennas and combining several technologies: UWB / BLE and LoRa / BLE.

XP Power has signed a Pan-European distribution agreement with Distrelec. The new partnership will allow the major specialist component distributor to sell XP Power’s entire standard product portfolio across Europe through its website and direct sales channels. XP Power’s AC-DC power supply range of ITE and medical safety-certified products covers power outputs from 3 Watts to 5,000 Watts and includes open-frame, enclosed, desktop, plug-in wall mounted, DIN rail, and PCB mounted units.

Blustream US, a strategic partnership between AV distribution manufacturer Blustream and RTI, announced that it has begun shipping the Blustream AV distribution line to US customers; appointed JB&A as its lead commercial market distributor; and appointed its first four sales rep organisations.

C&K, manufacturer of high reliability electromechanical switches, has signed regional distributor Astute Electronics to better support its growing customer base. Astute Electronics offers engineering and design services that enable customers to shorten design cycles and simplify the supply chain process. Astute Electronics will support C&K in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Turkey and the UK.

Digi-Key Electronics announced that it has expanded its product portfolio to include a global distribution of Mag Layers USA MMD series moulded power inductors. This partnership is part of Digi-Key’s global marketplace initiative to broaden the product offering now available for customers.

Pervasive Displays has strengthened its customer supply chain offering by engaging Mouser Electronics as a distribution partner. The partnership will cover a range of Pervasive Displays’ ultra-low power e-paper displays and the EXT 2 extension kit development board.

Solar energy drives major expansion of European distribution centre

R

S Components (RS), a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc, has placed sustainability as a priority in a €65 million expansion of its distribution centre (DC) in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. The installation of a major solar energy system on the roof of the new 9,000 m² building, which is due for completion in August 2021, is capable of generating 750 kWh of photovoltaic (PV) capacity daily to convert solar radiation directly into electricity, providing energy to the RS site and feeding power into the grid.

Since the first PV panels were put in place at the end of July, the site at Bad Hersfeld, which will become the largest of the company’s 12 global DCs once the expansion has been completed, has resulted in significant solar energy production levels. In August 2020, for example, the first full month after the system was commissioned, when sunshine hours were at a peak, solar cell production generated more than 25 per cent of the extended site’s entire energy consumption. Debbie Lentz, president of Supply Chain at Electrocomponents, comments: “This investment in solar energy is an important step towards reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. On many days of the year, we can

now be entirely energy self-sufficient at our Bad Hersfeld DC, utilising a 100 per cent clean, renewable energy source.” In addition to generating sustainable energy to power the RS site, the solar cells have been connected to the power grid since November via a local electricity provider for the feed-in of surplus energy.

“I am delighted that we are using the latest technology in every area of the project,” adds Debbie Lentz. “In the case of photovoltaics in particular, it is clear how the most modern solutions not only benefit us as the operator of the DC but also create a very practical connection between ecology and economy. The times when economic requirements and those of the environment were often irreconcilable are over, thanks to technical innovation.”

The expansion of the RS Bad Hersfeld DC will almost double the existing warehouse space at the site, with capacity to stock more than 500,000 products at this location alone. This will result in even faster delivery times to customers across the EMEA region and provide enhanced supply chain reliability.
