How important is shoe fitting to your business? Are you or any of your staff members of the Society Of Shoe Fitters? Shoe fitting is key to Noble Lion. When we decided to open the shop there was no question over whether I would get the necessary training to be able to offer the best services to our customers. I completed the footwear and fitting course with the Society of Shoe

Fitters and was lucky enough to make it to their last fitting workshop at the College of Podiatry before lockdown in March. It’s so helpful to have their wealth of knowledge behind me and instils confidence in my customers.

Does your shop sell other items besides footwear? At the moment, we are concentrating solely on feet but we hope to extend our product range in the future. we brought in some fun colour changing umbrellas in autumn and they were really well recieved!

Which footwear/fashion shows do you attend and how do you rate them? Are you planning to attend a Show next year, if so, which one? We have attended Indx which was really great as we got to meet two of our suppliers in person. It was also helpful in seeing what is available in the childrenswear market and what trends were emerging. We would like to attend more in future such as Moda but that will probably be in a different format now due to Covid-19.

Have you always had a passion for footwear? How many pairs of shoes do you own? Do you have a favourite pair? Shoes are a definite passion for me, I’ve loved them since I was a child and the majority of my income from my first job was spent on them! My degree in Fashion and Clothing definitely increased my love for shoes. I own way too many pairs and it is genuinely impossible for me to choose a favourite pair! My favourite pair at the moment are a pair of studded taupe ankle boots.

How do you think the Government could best help footwear retailers at this difficult time, i.e. lower business rates, rents, VAT etc? I don’t know! I certainly wouldn’t want to be in Government at this point, there are so many people struggling across many different industries and with individual situations. I guess I just hope that there is a safety net to catch all of those who don’t meet specific criteria for certain grants etc so that no one is able to fall through the cracks.

Do you have any plans for the future? Our current plan is to raise awareness of the importance of children’s footwear that supports their natural development alongside serving our customers really, really well. We do see ourselves expanding our product range but we are just taking things one step at a time!
