What the exhibitors told Footwear Today Magazine:

“The MODA Show for both Rieker and Remonte was pretty successful. Footfall overall was ok and we saw all the customers we were expecting to see, which is always great. For our brands this is not a great show for writing orders, but more showing off the AW18 product. Both ranges of Rieker and Remonte were very well received with some great feedback comments on the ranges.” Chris Gorrod, Managing Director, Brevitt Rieker Ltd.

“The Moda Show was excellent for us on the Sunday and Monday. A few complained that they simply couldn't get on the stand. Nice problem! Tuesday was quiet though. Our UK sales- through for the current winter and profit margin achieved were generally very good with our customers. We don't sell to discounters nor do we sell directly to the public. We only have leather product and we concentrate on two things, fit and comfort. We don't know anything else! The new collection is the best I have ever worked with in my 12 years at Caprice. The showroom diary is now filling up and we are all long forward to a day off, at Easter hopefully!” Stephen Joseph, UK Agent, Caprice.

“We experienced an increased number of visitors to the Waldlaufer stand which has encouraged us to increase the space we book for the next show in August. We noticed that the Irish are attending in greater numbers showing a return to better trading conditions particularly in Eire. Many of our accounts took the trouble to come and congratulate us on our award of the Comfort and Wellness Brand of the Year. “The layout of the show, grouping the comfort brands in

close proximity to each other, helped buyers to plan their visit and make decisions about where they were going to spend their money. The Footwear Awards reception was well planned and attended and provided an excellent opportunity to network with the great and the good.” David Bailey, Waldlaufer UK Office.

“Once again we are delighted to report record February sales for the Lunar brand at MODA. Despite most retailers having had a difficult boot season in 2017, the attitude remained positive for Autumn 2018. We witnessed retailers making safer investments in shoes & slippers, shifting their budgets from long & mid-height boots. In addition to the Winter buys, we saw professional retailers freshening up their Spring Collections with some of our new Mid-Summer delivery lines. MODA remains the best national show for Lunar and a key date in the buying calendar.” Martin Rye, Managing Director. GRS Footwear Ltd.

“We had a quieter than expected Sunday which was disappointing, Monday was as we expected, steady all day. Interestingly Tuesday was better than expected and with only two of us on the stand we were busy most of the day and I didn’t get to catch up on my emails!!! The Vibram Furoshiki Oslo Waterproof Boot with Arctic Grip soles was particularly well received out of the Vibram range. In our shoecare range the new Bama Sneaker products were

very popular as well as our staple, good old Easy Laces.” Chris Wilson, Charles Birch Ltd.

“This was our 4th Moda Show with JOYA and by far our busiest both with existing accounts who are now booking appointments and new accounts, many of these coming on after being recommended by existing customers who are having good sell through with the brand and now good repeat sales with their customers and spreading the word. We also launched a new brand for us Fidelio and this was really successful both with existing accounts also bringing new accounts to the stand! The standard of buyers at the show was good, all looking to do business which has been great for us. We did see a decline of upstart web sellers, which was good, as I think people are starting to realise how hard it is to have a successful web business.

“Getting highly recommended in the "Comfort and wellness"

award really had an impact and we saw many new faces on the stand enquiring about Joya shoes and the benefits they can bring to their customers” Lee Patten, Sales Director, Joya and Fidelio, Golden Concept Ltd.

“MODA continues to be an important British footwear show for Chatham, especially for writing forward-orders, and meeting current and potential new customers. We’re pleased to report we successfully opened six new accounts at the show, with many hot leads for us to follow up on. We’ve already signed up to exhibit in August 2018 with our Summer 2019 collection, and we look forward to showcasing our new lines, including some exciting developments in our exclusive Made in Britain collection. Chatham was also highly commended at the Footwear Industry Awards, which we’re delighted about!” Philip Marsh, Managing Director, Chatham

“Many exhibitors reported an excellent reception for their brands at this season’s Moda Show in February 2018, including taking orders and new business. However, a number of UK footwear retailers were notable by their absence and

footfall in some areas appeared less busy than usual. This season the Moda Show was held during the school half term holidays, which might have been a contributory factor.” Cheryl Taylor, Editor.

“As a company, UKD, had what can only be described as an "extremely rewarding MODA", with an increase in new accounts opened, orders taken and very positive "Brand" response. We were particularly pleased with the reaction to our new,"Cipriata" ladies brand, with all aspects of our very "fickle" industry stating just what a superb product it was, as it offered, "Excellent quality, value for money and very “competitive margins", on top of which, they are available in "Single Pairs", not cartons”. Mike Barton, UKD

“Moda AW18 was a very busy show for us over the 3 days. We launched a Fly London kids collection which attracted a lot of new customers, and mainline existing stockists were re-booking our Gore-Tex Fly boots. Softinos continued to be popular & a house shoe from our new eco-friendly brand ‘Asportuguesas’ brought some colour & quirkiness to the show.” Ashley Cummings, UK Agent, Fly London and Softinos.

“MODA was very busy across all 3 days with stockists placing orders to get the earliest delivery dates possible for AW18. Our stand repositioning worked well with many new enquiries also from retailers interested in LEGeRO”. Marcus Baker MSSF, Sales Manager UK & Ireland, Legero Schuhfabrik GesmbH, Austria.

“DB Wider Fit Shoes had yet another busy show! It has surged forward with several new developments all of which were very well received by both new and existing customers. The introduction of a new wedge sole unit, waterproof men’s and ladies walking boots and our exciting new range of men’s formal 2V (2E-4E) fit shoes all went down well with retailers. New colours and styling to our popular stretch court shoe range were well received too. There were new styles introduced to our UK made shoes which have interchangeable straps to either provide more fitting for the fuller foot, or different styling to the same shoe. Win win! Rosie Laker, Sales Manager, DB Shoes.

“MODA was going to be an interesting one this year. We have a great position which was directly in front of one of the industry giants in previous shows. This always served us well as it created superb footfall. It was noticeable that footfall in this section of the show was reduced but was that localised due to them pulling out of the show or was general attendance for the Autumn/Winter show just not where it was for the previous show in August? The bottom line was that we met people we wanted to meet, we wrote orders and the injection line of Dude Shoes to transition between the seasons was very well received.” Fred Willis, UK Agent Drooth Ltd.

“We see Moda Footwear as the most important UK-based footwear trade show, and our primary “shop window” to promote the Vionic brand to UK retailers. Although Vionic is already a major brand in the USA, we are still relatively new to the UK market, so our presence at Moda is key to us meeting with UK footwear buyers. This was our third time exhibiting at Moda our most successful yet, with orders being written on the stand, and buyers making appointments to visit our regional stockrooms. Key highlights from our AW18 range at Moda were our sport-luxe styles Cece and Codie which feature on-trend colour-blocking in buttery-soft leathers, the low-heeled ankle boot Jolene, and our cup-sole range of 9 flat casuals and ankle boots in leathers, nubucks and reptile prints. Mike Dray, National Account Manager, Vionic Europe Ltd.

Moda will return to the NEC on 5-7 August this year. To find out more about the show, see www.moda-uk.co.uk
