The new slimline XA4 and iXA4 PWM servo drives from Aerotech A
erotech’s innovations, Automation1 XA4 and iXA4, are two new digital PWM drives in the company’s
portfolio. The slimline single and multi- axis servo motor drives are to be used with Aerotech’s Automation1 platform, with a lower price than Aerotech’s higher- performance drives. Both a single- and dual-axis versions are available as either a standalone motion controller or part expansion options. A four-axis version expansion and DC motor supply input for the entire series. The Pittsburgh-based motion control specialist states that the new XA4 drive series is creating a “small revolution in the market for PWM drives and motion controllers”. The drives’ performance is high at a comparatively low price, which will open up the market to other

Lean PWM servo motor drives Aerotech market launch prices are set for under 2,000 euros for the two-axis XA4 and single-axis iXA4. Both are part of the user-friendly Automation1 motion to suit the application and controller performance needed. The platform has its own software-based motion controller, whilst making it easy to control the positioning solutions and other connected components. Areas of application include automation systems, precision laser processes and test and inspection processes. The new slimline single- and dual-axis servo motor drives provide users with precise, powerful control for several motion axes in the same machine. The iXA4 also reduces the space required on the machine and
eliminates the need for an industrial PC. Communication with Automation1, PC and drive-based control elements takes place via the patented HyperWire motion controller of the Automation1 platform. As a drive, the iXA4 supports several feedback device types and also has an on-board memory for high-speed data acquisition and process control. The integrated Automation1 controller can be used to control a total of twelve HyperWire motion axes and execute up to nine user tasks.
Shorter build times Combined with Aerotech’s motion control platform Automation1, users can achieve the highest level of precision and performance, whilst enjoying advanced setup tools and ease of use. This in turn means shorter development and build times for their products, as well as the ability to produce better quality parts at higher throughput.
