emand for electric vehicles (EVs) is soaring as new car sales in the UK hit a 30-year low. A new study finds that nearly 30% of Brits will choose an electric mode of transport for their next vehicle. UK domestic car sales have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, affected by the current cost of living and energy crises. And when they do buy cars, Brits move away from the traditional diesel/petrol engines to electric-powered vehicles – EVs accounted for nearly a fifth of all new car sales in 2022, followed by e-bikes, according to e-bike manufacturer Swytch Technology.

The UK government has already taken steps to promote the adoption of electric transportation - in 2019 it introduced the e-bike subsidy scheme, which provides a discount on the purchase of e-bikes for individuals and businesses. The scheme has been successful in encouraging more people to switch to electric forms of transportation, and the government will now extend it to 2024.
Oliver Montague, co-founder and CEO of Swytch Technology, said that: “Although there is still much progress towards a sustainable transport infrastructure in the UK, recent data showing Brits are choosing electric over internal combustion engines shows their dedication to a greener future. E-bikes are instrumental in the future of sustainable transportation in the UK. Not only are they environmentally-friendly, producing zero emissions, but they are also practical and cost-effective for both individuals and businesses. As more people turn to e-bikes for their daily commuting and delivery needs, we will see a significant reduction in our reliance on fossil fuels and a corresponding decrease in air pollution. We are proud to be at the forefront of this shift towards a more sustainable future, and we believe that e-bikes will play a crucial role in getting us there.”
