fluid’s optical properties caused increased light attenuation within the sensing path, making the existing optical flow sensors unsuitable for the new system and coloured fluid. Titan recommended implementing its OG2 oval gear sensing technology, which is better suited to higher viscosity fluids and maintains measurement accuracy regardless of fluid


optical clarity. This approach not only resolved the light attenuation issue, but also delivered stable, repeatable flow measurement under the more demanding rheological conditions of the new fluid. As a result, Grinsty Rail was able to upgrade its fluid chemistry without compromising system performance. As technology continues to evolve, organisations face increasing pressure to innovate – frequent product updates are often seen as progress. However, in long-life industries such as rail, innovation must be balanced with stability to minimise risk, cost and complexity. This approach allows Grinsty Rail to adopt new capabilities without compromising the integrity of existing systems.
