NEWS Welcome to the October issue of Electronics for Engineers A

s the electrifi cation of the UK accelerates, I was shocked to read that Eastern England risks being left behind unless stakeholders in the region take urgent action.

Low carbon technologies reduce energy use and lower bills, but without a skilled electrical workforce to install them, energy costs will continue to soar. Research by the Electrical Contractors’ Association showed Eastern England faces a demographic timebomb. More electricians are leaving the industry than new recruits entering. The evidence shows weak links

It is not possible to decarbonise the region without more qualifi ed electricians who understand integrating new technologies with existing systems.

This issue of Electronics for Engineers is packed full of a wide range of articles. Topics covered include Enclosures, Interconnections, Automotive, Manufacturing, Automation, Batteries and Embedded Technology. RS Group announces ambitious carbon reduction targets towards net zero

RS Group plc has announced that four of its near-term climate reduction targets have received validation from the SBTi.

The SBTi is a global body that drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling organisations to set science-based emissions reduction targets.

RS is committed to helping fi ght the climate crisis through genuine actions to reduce its emissions, from ensuring its distribution centres generate and use renewable electricity, to cutting the distance its products travel and switching to deliveries by road or sea rather than air.

The company’s ambition is to reach net zero in its direct operations by 2030 and across its value chain by 2050. It is uniting the whole of RS, its 1.1 million customers and 2,500+ suppliers behind this goal, to develop and implement scalable solutions that lead to genuine emissions reductions.

shortages by ensuring the specifi ed part numbers are correct and procurable.

The paper used in this magazine is obtained from manufacturers who operate within internationally recognised standards. The paper is made from Elementary Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp, which is sourced from sustainable, properly managed forestation.

A BOM Scrub is a vital process for contract manufacturers (CEMs) and is essential for lean front-end processing. The process offers buyers reassurance that every component listed in the BOM is correct, authentic and available, avoiding manufacturing delays if a component must be reordered due to an incorrect part number, on short supply or allocation.

Andrea Barrett, vice president of social responsibility and sustainability at RS Group, said: “The SBTi validation is an important landmark in our 2030 environmental, social and governance (ESG) action plan – For a Better World.

“RS Group is one the fi rst global providers of industrial product and service solutions to achieve this milestone, giving our stakeholders real confi dence that we are committed to driving emissions reductions and progressing towards net zero.”
