PRODUCTS INTERCONNECTION CONNECTOR OFFERS GREATER POWER DENSITY IN RAIL VEHICLES T
he new Han 34 HPR EasyCon connector from Harting is
designed for high-current transmission with a high power density, making it ideally suited for use in rail vehicles. This range of Han 34 HPR
housings and retaining frames are designed in such a way, offering a
connector that can accommodate four 650A contacts alongside one another in a single interface, thought to be one of the first of its kind available. This more than doubles the connector’s current- carrying capacity compared to the next HPR connector size down. However, the housing dimensions have not increased to the same degree: the housing width is only a third more than the smaller alternative. The new connector is available in
an angled version for inter-car transitions and a straight version for connections to traction units. The housing also allows 12
individual Han-Modular modules to be inserted as an alternative to the
650A high-current contacts. Until now, two housings equipped with six Han-Modular individual modules each had to be used to obtain a comparable power supply. The company’s Han-Modular
series offers over 100 different inserts for the transmission of power, signals and data, enabling a wide range of combination options. Intelligent modules in this 20
smart Han range complete the offering, including an ID module which gives rail components an identity that can be called up on networks. In addition, networks can be extended by integrating the new four-port Ethernet switch US4, which uses minimum space.

MINI-IO ADOPTED AS ICE INDUSTRY STANDARD
TE Connectivity (TE) has announced its Mini-IO connector has been adopted as an international standard (IEC 61076-3-122) by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). IEC 61076-3-122 provides the minimum
requirements for a miniaturised connector for industrial applications and thus ensures safety through consistent performance and interoperability. Connector requirements for industrial applications are high as they typically run in harsh environments with high mechanical demands from vibrations and rapid movements, environmental stress through dust and humidity, and possible exposure to radiated electromagnetic fields. “TE is pleased that with the completion and
NEW FLANGE CONNECTOR FOR REDUCED SPACE MILITARY APPLICATIONS
A new reduced flange connector has been introduced by Amphenol Socapex for limited space applications. This connector is claimed to be smaller and lighter than a MIL-DTL-38999 III connector, but with similar performance. Designed for military and aviation applications, this solution combines space and weight savings with the performance of a MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connector. Its design can reduce the footprint surface by 41%. It is also 20% lighter than a standard
MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connector. The connector is ideal in situations where a maximum number of MIL- DTL-38999 Series III connectors need to be installed in a minimum of space or when there are weight constraints. Derived from the MIL-DTL-38999 Series III, the 38999 Reduced Flange receptacle is equipped with the
same inserts and is thus pin and plug compatible with the 38999 Series III standard connectors. It also guarantees identical performance levels and resistance to corrosion, shocks and vibration. In order to adapt to all types of harsh environmental conditions, the receptacle is supplied in many different
versions made with various material and surface treatments such as cadmium, black zinc nickel, nickel etc. The Reduced Flange connector is available in three versions: crimping, PCB mounting and stand-off. Developed specially for the needs of the military and aviation markets, the new connector is ideally suited to
applications such as armoured vehicles, data acquisition equipment, aeroplanes, helicopters, avionic calculators, missiles and drones where electrical performance and miniaturisation are essential.

publication of IEC 61076-3-122, the Mini-IO is the first standardised miniaturised industrial communication connector for an IP20 environment. Beyond its advantages for industrial applications in harsh environments, the small dimensions of the connector enable smaller devices and therefore higher packing densities inside cabinets,” said Guenter Feldmeier, global standardisation & consortia leader of TE’s Industrial business unit. “TE Connectivity is pleased that the mini- i/O Standard was based on our technology.”

A number of M16 connectors for panel mount applications have been announced by binder. These are additions to several series of binder M16 connectors – 581,680, 682, 423,723 and 425 - and come ready wired. Applications will be widespread across industrial control and measurement as well as medical systems and professional audio equipment. They can be supplied with 4 – 8 contacts and single PVC 0.34mm², AWG 22/7 cUL Style 1007/1569 wires. Rated current is 5-7A and rated voltage 60-250V and, when mated, models meet the requirements of IP40 or IP67.

NEW LOW-PROFILE HOUSINGS FOR PANEL INTERFACE CONNECTORS
New Low Profile enclosures for Panel Interface Connectors (PIC) have been announced by Mencom. The PIC, also known as programming ports or programming interfaces, enables communication with a device inside a cabinet without opening the cabinet door. This helps prevent potential safety hazards (such as Arc Flash) associated with opening an electrical panel. By installing a PIC helps maintain compliance with stringent safety industry regulations. The use of a PIC eliminates the need for costly personal protective equipment (PPE)

and a licensed electrician to access the inside of the cabinet. Mencom’s new Low Profile PIC design
protrudes from the side of the cabinet 75 percent less than the standard metal housings. The Low- Profile housings are UL listed and available in three sizes; one single cover (LP1), two single covers (LP2) and one double cover (LP3). The transparent polycarbonate cover allows
users to see which components are within the enclosure. These enclosures provide an IP65 rating, and feature a unique locking mechanism. The lock is located on the sliding latch and can be operated using a standard flat head screw driver.
