PRODUCTS OPTOELECTRONICS INFRARED LED SUPPORTS IRIS RECOGNITION

applications in security surveillance systems (access control) and portable handsets. Following the market demand

E

verlight Electronics Co. has launched its NIR-C19M series

with a wavelength of 810nm, which exert the clearest contrast effect to read the pattern of the iris. The recognition process is precise, quick and features excellent heat dissipation. This makes it perfectly suitable for iris recognition

and the resulting development of appropriate high technology, the concept of “body is access code” has been integrated into many systems and devices. Smart biometric identification allows measuring the users’ unique patterns in the fingerprint, voice, iris and face quickly and easily to avoid the problem of recalling traditional long passwords. Infrared LEDs for non-contact optical identification have the advantages of compact size, strong security and quick recognition speed. Everlight’s NIR-C19M series for

non-contact optical iris recognition adopts a moulding manufacturing process. Compared to the traditional glue dispense manufacturing process, moulding results in a smoother surface which not only enhances the look but also increases reliability. This series works with a wavelength of 810nm and uses an advanced ISP image processor together with a CMOS sensor to receive the infrared reflection by the human eye to authenticate iris identification. It’s optical design achieves a clear high reflection rate, a small angle (FOV=25) and a radiant intensity of up to 2,700mW/Sr below /less than 1000mA. www.everlight.com

CHIP FERRITE BEADS SUPPRESS POWER LINE NOISE IN AUTOMOTIVE

Murata has announced the BLM31KN_BH series of chip ferrite beads for use in automotive powertrain safety applications with a very high, guaranteed temperature capability of 150ºC. The chip ferrite beads are aimed at the automotive market for use as noise suppression components in power line circuits installed in engine bays and LED headlights that require guaranteed performance at high temperatures. In the automotive market, the need for noise

NEW ALL-IN-ONE EMERGENCY LED DRIVER WITH EASY SET-UP

A new versatile all-in-one emergency LED driver from Fulham Co. Inc. is now available at Solid State Supplies. The HotSpot FHSAC1-230-45CE comes with a five-year warranty and combines an advanced programmable LED driver, emergency system and Lithium battery pack in a single, convenient package. The LED driver utilises Fulham's SmartSet platform

allowing users to configure the driver for many situations. Programming is simple, intuitive and is

performed with the TPSB-100EU SmartSet controller. Extended features are available through the feature-rich SmartSet PC software. Auto-program mode allows for rapid, one-touch programming of multiple units. By combining the LED driver, emergency system and replaceable battery in a single module, installation

times and costs are significantly reduced when compared to discrete approaches. The advanced design, component selection, and high quality Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery chemistry enables a 50,000 hour service life for the driver and battery pack. The programmable LED driver delivers up to 45W with currents from 250mA to 1400mA, programmable in

1mA increments via SmartSet. Common modules are supported by a wide output voltage range of 11-50V while a programmable dimming curve allows for Linear, Log, Step Dim and Dim-to-Off from 100% to 1% (or 0%). Emergency power can be programmed over the range 1W to 6W; in typical usage 3W can be delivered for 180mins, or 6W for 90mins. www.sssltd.com

suppression to counteract conductive and radiated noise has recently increased due to the development of motorisation of various functions including those in hybrid and electric cars. For example, the number of motor control circuits (with brushes) or inverter circuits (brushless) has increased with the motorisation of powertrains, requiring noise suppression components that are capable of dealing with large currents. www.murata.com

Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now stocking CLQ6A-TKW red, green, blue, and white (RGBW) LEDs from Cree. The Cree CLQ6A- TKW devices are four-in-one LEDs that provide a single point source for excellent optical control, efficient colour mixing and simplified design. These individually addressable RGBW LEDs deliver 8.2 lumens for Blue, 30 lumens for Green, 14 lumens for Red, and 25 lumens for White at 100mA. A wide viewing angle and high brightness make these LEDs suitable for outdoor signage and architectural applications.

SMART WALL SWITCH COMPATIBLE WITH RESIDENTIAL RETROFIT INSTALLATIONS

A new reference design has been released by Power Integrations describing a smart wall switch compatible with wiring conditions most commonly found in residential retrofit installations. Typically, smart wall switches with

wireless connectivity, occupancy/vacancy sensing and/or voice control require a neutral return wire to power the unit, which

is not always available in retrofit situations. No-neutral products are available for legacy incandescent bulbs because the small AC input current that is allowed to leak through the load when the smart-switch is in standby mode is insufficient to heat the filament. However, for LED and compact fluorescent designs, high standby-mode current from the smart-

switch’s internal power supply can lead to unacceptable flicker often known as “ghosting,” caused by the leakage energy accumulating in the lamp and initiating intermittent start-up and brief light activation. DER-622 illustrates a Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) wall switch consuming

less than 500µA in standby mode. The design is based on Power Integrations’ LinkSwitch-TN2 offline switcher ICs, which have quiescent consumption of less than 75µA. The ICs’ ultra-low current consumption and high light-load efficiency ensure compatibility with energy-efficient LED bulbs rated down to 3W and are ideal for no-neutral wall switch wiring. LinkSwitch-TN2 devices may be configured to support flyback or buck

topologies and deliver highly accurate output, providing voltage regulation of better than ±3%. The ICs enhance system reliability by incorporating many safety features including input and output over-voltage protection. www.power.com
