Autonomous aviation Electronics for Engineers expert receives MBE from Prince William
One of the UK’s leading fi gures in autonomous technology was given the royal seal of approval recently at Windsor Castle. David Keene, the founder of Aurrigo International plc in Coventry, received his MBE from Prince William for his services to the ‘decarbonisation of airports’.
The Kenilworth-based
entrepreneur was recognised for the launch of Auto-DollyTug and Auto-Caro– two autonomous vehicles that are moving luggage and cargo around seven airports across the world. On receiving his MBE, he was issued a stark challenge by Prince William, who said he had ‘the weight of the world on his shoulders in making fl ying greener’ – a challenge the Aurrigo CEO is keen to embrace.
“It was a fantastic experience visiting Windsor Castle with my family and then celebrating after with friends and colleagues who have made the journey possible,” explained David, who formed the business with his brother Graham in 1993.

Welcome back to another edition of Electronics for Engineers. It’s been a busy
month for us here, we’ve been up and down the country visiting the Electronic Component Show in Oxford, Microelectronics UK in London and the Electronic Design Show in Birmingham plus our efforts in expanding our digital outreach through interviews on EFE TV, the new home for all our video content going forward. If you haven’t checked that out yet go and take a look over on our website.
We partnered with Microelectronics
UK, at the Excel in its debut year. The show was received really well by exhibitors and guests we spoke to on the day, and I know next years event is already being meticulously planned out and we will strive to be there again. You can read more about the event and its future in an exclusive interview with its group event director Michael Adeniya on page 36.
For now though, this issue will look at Distribution, Contract Manufacturing, Switches, Displays and UIs, Interconnection, Power, Enclosures, Component Design and a bumper industry focus on Automotive Electronics. I hope you enjoy the read.

Suppliers urged to take part in new JLR survey
A new survey of companies in the JLR supply chain has been launched to ensure West Midlands fi rms are having their voices heard.
The Black Country Chamber of
Commerce, Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of
Commerce and Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce have opened the new survey to fi nd out how businesses are managing in the aftermath of the cyber-attack that hit the automotive giant at the start of September.
It led to the company halting operations for around a month and, while a phased return began earlier this month, it is still not working to full capacity.

The questions focus on the fi nancial pressures suppliers are under and what support is still required.
The paper used in this magazine is obtained from manufacturers who operate within internationally recognised standards. The paper is made from Elementary Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp, which is sourced from sustainable, properly managed forestation.
The three Chambers representing businesses across the West Midlands and Warwickshire conducted a survey at the height of the crisis to fi nd out how suppliers were faring and are now following that up to gauge the latest sentiment.
