MICROELECTRONICS

Microelectronics UK 2025 We spoke to Michael Adeniya, the group event director

for microelectronics UK at the Excel Centre where just shy of 3000 attendees registered for the debut of the two day event. Interview conducted by Samuel Jones

Q: Tell us about the show and why it is important to the electronics industry

Michael: The reason this show is taking place is we’ve got people from three core segments underneath that microelectronics umbrella the photonics audience, embedded systems, and of course, semiconductors. And reason being is that these are three technologies that the UK can really take a strong leadership position in and are all integral to developing new innovative technologies that drive us forward.

Q: How has the show gone at the end of day one?

Michael: It’s been great. So, two things that we wanted to see. We wanted to see loads of collaboration and we wanted to see inspiration for people, thinking about new ideas and new ways of thinking about problems and challenges they’ve got. And honestly, the feedback has been fantastic. People are genuinely doing new collaborations. I’m seeing lots of people have one to one meetings, and then turning those into action, which is what we want to see them do. So that’s the next step, is how do

we now turn these fantastic conversations into action and develop new innovation that can really transform how we live our lives, technology wise?

Q: Outside of the exhibition stands, what else does the show have to offer?

Michael: There’s so much going on. There’s,

a couple of areas that we wanted to focus on. There’s how do we drive investment into the UK. We’ve got the Startup Launchpad in collaboration with Silicon Catalyst and we got around 20 companies, early stage founders, pitching and presenting to investors over there. We’ve got a skill zone with UKESF and Electrohire, educating people about new career paths and new opportunities for them to grow in this sector and build their skill set.

Some of the sessions on the stages around embedded systems and semiconductors have been fantastic as well. Teaching people about, you know, how can we adopt AI and smart development workflows as well.

Q: Microelectronics is partnered with the Welsh government and the Departments for Science, Innovation and Technology, what was the reasoning behind bringing those public bodies into the show?

Michael: So really cool stuff going on. We’re bringing in the public sector and government groups nationally and internationally. You mentioned the Welsh Government and DSIT and they’ve been here in strong support of this event because the
