EASY-TO-USE, COST-EFFECTIVE, LASER LINE-SCAN PROFILERS LAUNCHED
New from ifm are the PMD laser line-scan profilers, which offer a convenient, cost- effective and easy-to-use solution to the challenge of inline inspection of components and assemblies to detect manufacturing faults. More reliable than manual inspection, yet capable of detecting even small and subtle faults, PMD profilers can be configured in minutes using just three integrated pushbuttons – no software is required. The profilers work by scanning a line across a
good sample of the object to be inspected and, using laser time-of-flight technology, storing a profile for this line. Subsequent objects are scanned in the same way and the results are compared with the stored version. If the deviation is greater than a user- definable limit, the profiler’s good/bad output changes state. The evaluation of the profile covers a specific ‘region of interest’ which again is user definable. Key benefits of this method of operation are that results are unaffected by
ambient light levels or by changing distance, over a wide range, between the profiler and the object being inspected. In addition, small faults, such as incorrectly tightening fixings, missing seals and defective or missing machining steps, can easily be detected. The profilers are also invaluable aids for applications such as product sorting and orientation. There are two versions currently available: The OPD100 version allows users to
set one region of interest and stores a single profile; while the OPD101 supports two regions of interest and stores up to ten profiles.

Phoenix Contact’s Quint Power family has been extended to include a power supply with 110V DC, suitable for applications from 110V DC to 135V DC. This means that just one device can now be used to supply applications that previously required several devices to be connected in series. This saves space in the control cabinet and reduces wiring effort. The power supply has EN, IEC, UL 61010-1, and 61010-2-201 approval. It is certified in
accordance with UL HazLoc Class 1, Division 2 for potentially explosive areas, and its DNV GL approval means that it can also be used in marine applications.

PHOTOMICROSENSOR A new, ‘exceptionally compact’ reflective photomicrosensor (PMS) has been launched by Omron Electronic Components. This has a sensing distance of 3-4mm, plugging a gap in the market for an SMD device addressing
applications such as 3D printers, mini printers, e-locks and factory automation equipment, the company explains. The Omron EE-SY1201 reflective PMS is just 3mm x 4mm x
2mm – yet offers a peak sensing distance of 3mm. Typical applications include paper pass detection in mini-printers, pin or cylinder rotation in e-locks, media pass detection in cutting machines and filament rotation in 3D printers. Other uses include factory automation equipment and industrial cameras. For applications requiring a shorter sensing distance of just 0.5mm, Omron offers the EE-SY1200.

FPGA-BASED SOLUTION STACKS
New to Lattice Semiconductor Corporation’s portfolio of comprehensive low power FPGA-based solution stacks is the Lattice Automate. The stack includes software tools, industrial IP cores, modular hardware development boards, and software- programmable reference designs and demos that simplify and accelerate implementation of applications like robotics, scalable multi-channel motor control with predictive maintenance, and real-time industrial networking. Intelligent industrial systems made possible by Automate will play a vital role in automating future smart factories, warehouses, and commercial buildings. Technology trends like the IoT and Edge computing are
driving development of intelligent automation systems to improve efficiency and worker safety. According to Fortune Business Insights, the global industrial automation market is projected to reach USD $326.14 billion by 2027. The Automate stack offers reference designs and software
tools for the rapid development of popular industrial applications, including: • Scalable Motor Control – accelerates development of flexible motor control systems, including a GUI-based user interface for system monitoring and control.
• Predictive Maintenance – minimizes machine downtime by monitoring multiple motors in a system.
• Embedded Real-time Networking – implements an extensible sense and control system for a large number of devices using a Lattice Nexus FPGA as the central controller.
• Cyber Resiliency – enables a hardware Root-of-Trust that can detect, protect, and recover from a firmware-based attack in real time.
• Easy-to-use Software Design Methodology – the stack supports Lattice Propel for simplifying development of industrial automation systems with software/hardware co-processing using an embedded RISC-V processor.

Now available from XP Power is the HRC05 series of 5W regulated high-voltage DC-DC converters that delivers a fully adjustable and reliable output voltage up to 6kVDC in a small package. Models in the series provide design engineers working on high voltage integration with a complete set of features as standard in one compact footprint. Key highlights include the low line and load regulation (<0.01%) and excellent ripple
performance (<0.01%), providing accurate and reliable high voltage for long term applications. All models are approved to IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1, 61010-1 standards and are UKCA & CE marked to applicable directives & legislation for global use. The input voltage of the HRC05 series is
24VDC nominal, with an operating range from 22VDC to 30VDC. It is available in 18 models with positive or negative DC outputs ranging from 0V to 350V up to 0V to 6000V. The PCB mount, convection-cooled units
measure just 65mm x 33mm x 14mm (WxLxH). The operating temperature range of the HRC05 series is -40˚C to +70˚C with no current derating over the range. Stability is 100ppm over 8 hours (after a 30-minute warm-up).
