PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE METAL ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Wayland Additive has unveiled its ‘breakthrough metal additive manufacturing’ (AM) technology NeuBeam, with the commercial launch of its first platform: Calibur3. According to the company, NeuBeam is
an entirely new, ground-breaking, powder bed fusion (PBF) process that offers the opportunity to 3D print metal parts that cannot normally be produced due to current metal AM process limitations. This, the company continues, increases the potential for new applications because NeuBeam
offers the opportunity to use a much wider range of metal materials. In addition, it enables the production of large parts without having to worry about
residual stress or gas cross flow and without having to pre-sinter the powder bed. The printable area of the Calibur3 system is 300 x 300 x 450 mm. Additional features includes reduced energy consumption and print times, a
simplified powder removal process and significantly less post-processing. Fully dense parts can also be produced in a wide range of metal materials; and a built-in, real-time in-process monitoring control system ensures an industrial and stable production platform.

In June 2019, NSK and Volkswagen AG commenced a formal cooperation between the companies’ respective steering divisions with the ambition of further advancing innovation in steering systems. The success of this joint development initiative has led to the appointment of NSK as the production partner for a high-power, single-pinion electric power steering (EPS) system for Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle platform. Manufacturing will start in 2023 at an NSK plant in China, with systems supplied to Volkswagen’s electric vehicle plants worldwide. “This step represents a further milestone in the
development of our steering systems,” stated Thorsten Jablonski, head of the Gearbox & Electric Drive Business Unit at Volkswagen Group Components. “Thanks to the cooperation, we now have a production option in China, where we can offer our technology together with NSK.” Masatada Fumoto, head of NSK’s Steering and Actuator
Division Headquarters, said: “The joint development of this high-power, single-pinion EPS is the first success of our cooperation with Volkswagen. We thank Volkswagen for good collaboration in this project and look forward to further innovative development programmes together.”
NSK Europe INERTIAL SENSOR FOR MOTION DETECTION
An increasing number of safety and comfort driver aids will feature on the cars and machines of tomorrow; and comprehensive sensing is crucial to support many purposes like motion detection, positioning, sensor fusion, inclination detection, and much more. For these purposes, Panasonic Industry Europe has developed a six-axis inertial sensor series that provides installation freedom, additional functionalities to onboard systems with this one-chip-solution, and cost-effectiveness. The 6-axis Gyro & Accelerometer 6DoF sensor series – also called ‘6in1
sensor’ – is available in a wettable flank QFN package. This housing benefits from a special edge that forms a step, with the solder creating a reliable connection in the throat of this step. This allows high-quality soldering and thus error-free assembly, which is essential for automotive safety (electronic stability control, ABS brakes, traction control), comfort (navigation, head-up display, driver-assist & comfort), and industrial applications (off-highway industry, AGV, robotics). The highly robust, shock- and vibration-resistant device has been designed under functional safety aspects of ISO26262 and is fully AEC- Q100 compliant. It meets all long-term stability, accuracy, vibration, and shock as well as temperature performance requirements of demanding automotive and industrial applications. Features include built-in high precision and functional safety, very low power and an extended
temperature range of -40˚C up to +125˚C with two temperature sensors inside. It has dynamic ranges of 1g...16g, 30d/s...300d/s, total sensitivity error of less than ±3%, and drive/sense frequencies of >20kHz.

Panduit’s new Edge Clips are versatile, quick and securely attach directly to panel and frame edges – no drilling into the structure is required, maintaining the panel’s integrity. This allows cables or wires to be routed along or perpendicular to the edge, as required by the application. Attachment is simple: press the clip directly onto the panel edge and use the accompanying cable tie for bundling. The Edge Clips can be installed without tools in around 11 seconds. There are two variants, suitable for 0.7-3mm
and 3-6mm thick edges. In addition, only a single Edge Clip is necessary for horizontal or vertical mounting, where alternative solutions require two

different Edge Clips. In addition, the specially designed saddle presses the cable tie firmly against the Edge Clip with no slippage. The combination of innovative Edge Clips,
robust cable ties and cable tie bases from Panduit permit professional use in the cabling of motor vehicles, rail engines and carriages, heavy-duty machinery, and solar parks for cable routing panels. In addition, the company offers pre- configured assemblies or barbed versions for applications in high vibration environments.

PUSHBUTTON SWITCHES
Many vehicles now feature a KES (keyless entry system) where LF antennas, pushbutton switches, and LEDs are commonly used and assembled in the door handle. So, Premo has introduced the series PB-Sx Pushbutton Switches which have been designed for vehicle access and other applications in harsh environments. The series has been designed and
manufactured following the European and International PREMO patents EP3726552A1 and WO2020212406A1, respectively, to provide a 100% sealed component against ingress of water and pressurised water (IP6k9), extremely functional conditions (20k pulses underwater), and mechanical life endurance (reliability) >10E5 with a nominal push-force of 12 ± 3N. Furthermore, a new interior design
feature avoids any breakage due to random assembly operations, where an external shear forces can be applied against the door handle or even as a result of frictional impacts against a sidewall of the vehicle in narrow passages. The pushbuttons are completely configurable within each model in relation to the length of the cable, the terminals (based on the final connector) and the series resistor.
