HARNESSING THE POWER OF DATA TO ENHANCE QUALITY OF LIFE
life for seniors. Its goal was to generate accurate, real-time data, to help caregivers stay on top of their charges’ potential health issues in a noninvasive format, all while providing insight and peace of mind to family members. The solution was the Tempo wearable health monitoring device. When developing this, however, the company needed accurate biosensors and fuel gauges, power-efficient switching regulators, and high performing audio amplifiers in a small, battery-powered footprint with a long runtime. To meet the requirements, it turned to ADI.

INNOVATIONS In addition to supplying high quality components that enable fast and easy development, ADI also helped the company tick the boxes for low power consumption, high accuracy, and compact form factors – ideal properties for wearable health technology. Modern sensor innovations and improvements have made it possible to offer more granular and actionable data than some of the original solutions to this problem. For example, older technologies like motion sensors cannot provide detailed insights, just basic motion tracking. CarePredict’s Tempo wearable health monitoring device can monitor the wearer no matter their location – from the bedroom to the kitchen or a bathroom, for example. Through a combination of data and AI, Tempo helps families and caregivers identify subtle changes such as eating less, sleeping poorly, or becoming more sedentary, which could signify more serious health issues. The system, which is used in senior
living facilities and private homes, relies on biosensors, deep learning algorithms, and predictive analytics to provide actionable insights to caregivers. These insights can help caregivers predict potentially serious health conditions like urinary tract infections, depression, or fall risks. CarePredict in the development, Analog Devices delivered advanced wearable technologies that saved months of development time
needed to support its small footprint and expected long runtime. The CarePredict team worked
closely with ADI engineers to create the sensor module for the Tempo wearable, which monitors pulse oximetry and heart rate. Typically, a sensor module like this takes at least a year to incorporate into a design. But by partnering with ADI, CarePredict was able to complete development on its sensor module in just six weeks, saving more than ten months in development time while also meeting accuracy, power consumption, and form factor targets. This enabled CarePredict to shift focus to other aspects of their
various activities, such as when the wearer is lifting a fork to their mouth. What’s more, it learns the daily tempo of individual wearers and can detect and report shifts in behaviour to trigger early intervention. Wearers can even push a button on the device to contact a caregiver or, with the home version, speak to a family member. In addition, the CarePredict TouchPoint app
offers real-time data and insights to family members at the touch of a button.
TECHNOLOGIES Creating such a complex, yet easy-to-use, health monitoring system required an array of underlying technologies: accurate biosensors and fuel gauges, power-efficient switching regulators, and high performing audio amplifiers, to name just a few. As the Tempo wearable is compact and battery-powered, the components also

SAFER, HEALTHIER LIVES According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations (UN), among others, the ageing population is growing faster than new generations can keep up. With younger caretakers outnumbered by their elderly charges, tools like the Tempo wearable health monitor will play an essential role in serving the elder demographic. “Continuous monitoring of vulnerable populations is an absolute must-have,” said CarePredict CEO Satish Movva. “Through our collaboration with ADI, we’re helping seniors live longer, safer, healthier lives, and giving families peace of mind.”
