Plant machinery health monitoring made easy Metrix´s new proximity sensor shaft calibration tool works with unknown target materials M

etrix´s newly announced 9060-SCTS shaft calibration system pairs with the industrial condition

monitoring system manufacturer´s Digital Proximity System (DPS) and associated Metrix hardware to enable custom shaft calibration in the field even when shaft material is not known. Available with full support in the UK from Ixthus Instrumentation, the 9060-SCTS (Shaft Calibrator Touch Select) is used to adjust the gap in pre- set micron level increments for calibrating proximity probe systems and thanks to the powerful DPS software, allows the user to change the configurationThe Metrix DPS combines the performance of a fully API 670 compliant eddy-current proximity measurement system with the flexibility of digital configurability. The field- configurable measurement system for position, radial vibration and speed is well proven where critical plant equipment such as motors, compressors, pumps and other rotating machines or piston based machines need to be closely monitored for optimal reliability. Typical systems for use with the DPS comprise a digital proximity transducer, interfacing cable and a choice of signal

conditioner - available as a driver for a machinery protection system or as a transmitter with a 4-20 mA signal to a PLC/DCS or SCADA system. Together with the latest free-of-charge software

version of the Metrix DPS, the 9060-SCTS is used to determine the actual proximity probe system output in

mV/mil or mV/m of a machine shaft or piston rod. Comprising a self-aligning cradle and a precision ´micrometer head´ that positions the inserted proximity sensor under test in fixed 200 micron or 0.010» increments, the system measures output at these fixed increments and is capable of ´straight-line´ re-calibration where material properties are not known. In this way the complete DPS system is capable of supporting a multitude of older probe systems, cable lengths, and target materials with just a single device.

Switching to Moulded Cables Could Bring Cost, Safety & Time Benefits, Claims Valve Connector Expert

V

alve connector users could save themselves time and money, whilst also reducing the risk of costly

downtime simply by switching to connectors with moulded cables, according to specialist supplier ATAM. The company is encouraging users of its Italian- made DIN valve connectors to consider the many benefits of switching to versions with ready moulded cables.

With many connectors being used in harsh

environments where there may be a high risk of dust, dirt or moisture ingress, moulded cables help to protect the connector components from contamination which might impair their performance. Moulded cables also remove the risk of poor and loose links between the connector and cable, which could cause the product to fail or malfunction.

The potential for human error when joining

connector to cable is also removed when using a secure, pre-moulded unit, resulting in better product consistency and reliability. Cost savings can also be enjoyed when buying the connector and cable as a single product from the same supplier. ATAM is able to supply valve connectors with moulded cables in a wide range of sizes with cables available in a variety of lengths and insulation materials. The company is also able to supply bespoke versions of the range, often holding stocks for supply to customers with limited storage facilities on a ‘just in time’ basis.
