Breathing Buildings Employees Take a Hike to Raise Money for Young Lives vs Cancer

T

wo employees from Breathing Buildings walked Peddars Way to raise vital funds for the charity Young Lives vs Cancer. Together, James Lupson, Factory Supervisor, and Mark Thomas, Purchasing Assistant, walked the long-distance footpath through the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside to raise an impressive £210 for the charity. Young Lives vs Cancer is Breathing Building’s chosen charity as part of a 2023 group-wide initiative. So far £12,111 has been raised to help the organisation continue their vital work in supporting young people and their families facing a cancer diagnosis and its treatment. Keen to support Breathing Building’s money-raising campaign, James and Mark decided on Peddars Way,

the 47-mile route along the Roman road from Knettishall to Hunstanton, because of the challenging nature of the walk. “We picked a route with a gruelling 770ft elevation but know it is nothing in comparison to the uphill battle that cancer fighters can face. Although the walk was tough, the scenery was beautiful and we were thrilled when we finally reached the edge of Hunstanton,” explained James, a keen walker who has tried to complete the route on three previous occasions. The pair made the walk even tougher by squeezing the distance into two days, where most walkers complete

the journey over three. “At the beginning I thought we would easily complete Peddars Way, but it was a lot harder than I expected,” said Mark, an enthusiastic gym-goer and cyclist. “The great weather and beautiful scenery kept us going towards our goal of raising funds for Young Lives vs Cancer, despite the challenges.” The pair even sustained minor injuries during their hike, James to a muscle in his hip, and Mark to his calves. However, supporting the work of Young Lives vs Cancer was so important to that they both kept going, finally reaching Hunstanton after walking for 20 and half hours over two days. Young Lives vs Cancer (formerly CLIC Sargent) is solely funded by donations. Every day, 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news that they have cancer, and the charity helps families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. The money raised by James and Luke will help the charity continue to fight for children and young people. For example, £15 could pay towards a social worker to support a recently diagnosed young person; £38 could pay for a family to stay in one of the charity’s Homes from Home near the hospital, and £100 could contribute to a financial grant so families facing money worries can pay for essentials, like food. Speaking on behalf of Young Lives vs Cancer, Hollie Trezise, Fundraising Engagement Manager said: “We’re

delighted that James and Mark chose to walk in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer and would like to congratulate them on their journey. We’re very grateful for all the fundraising by Breathing Buildings and their staff. Thanks to their excellent efforts, young people facing cancer, and their families, won’t have to face cancer alone.” To donate to Young Lives vs Cancer, head to https://www.justgiving.com/team/VVUK to help Mark and James reach an even greater total for the charity. When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment,

but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to. Young Lives vs Cancer helps families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. Powered by the kindness of their supporters, they face it all together.

New Stratton mk3 System Selector from Hamworthy Heating simplifies product selection

F

ollowing on from the launch of its latest Stratton mk3 wall- hung condensing boiler range,

Hamworthy Heating, a trusted British manufacturer and supplier of commercial heating and hot water products, is pleased to announce the introduction of its new Stratton mk3 System Selector tool, designed to help simplify the product selection process for cascade arrangements. For installations that require more output delivered flexibly, a Stratton mk3 cascade system can be installed with up to 6 boilers at a time to meet building demands effectively. Wall hung cascades have grown in popularity within the past decade due to the additional turndown ratio and redundancy that this kind of installation offers. Available with a range of plate heat exchangers and low-loss headers (including bespoke frame and header kits), the new Stratton mk3 System Selector identifies all the Hamworthy products needed for an efficient heating system. By answering a few simple questions from a drop-down menu, such as the number of Stratton mk3 boilers

to be cascaded, the highest single boiler output and gas type, the new Stratton mk3 System Selector will list all items required on screen. It can also be downloaded as a PDF or emailed directly for added convenience. Available in seven different outputs from 40 to 150kW, the Stratton mk3 wall-hung condensing boiler range

features a 5:1 turndown ratio, pre-mix burner technology for clean operation with ErP Class 6 NOx emissions, and is fully compliant with the latest minimum required efficiencies in the Part L Building Regulations. Offering a small and durable solution for even the tightest of plant rooms, when fitted with a plate heat exchanger or low- loss header, the Stratton mk3 can be fitted to old systems with peace of mind that the new boiler is protected from any dirt or debris existing in a secondary circuit. Offering exceptional system tolerance, the Stratton mk3 is backed by a five-year heat exchanger warranty. Gilberts Tops Behind-the-Scenes Work @ Printworks Manchester

T

he iconic PrintWorks venue in Manchester is undergoing a £20m refurbishment to its aesthetics and

facilities, with the aim of positioning it as a pioneering round-the-clock entertainment destination. With the four-storey, 365,000sq ft building open 24 hours a day, the diversity of activity- from spinning classes through gaming to eating & drinking- mean the building services need to perform constantly, to the highest standard. Hence, specialist mechanical building services contractor James Mercer Group chose Gilberts for support. Now, PrintWorks’ rooftop features a Gilberts Blackpool PHH75/IS bespoke- designed and engineered louvred penthouse measuring 4.2m x 2.6m to ensure adequate supply and exhaust of air into and out of the plant room below. For maintenance access, two louvred doors have been incorporated into the framework. The Gilberts penthouse focuses around 75mm pitch external weatherproof louvres behind which sits an insulated air volume control damper which regulates both the movement and volume of air from the outside to the inside and vice versa. Class A weather rated, it provides smooth, accurate and stable natural ventilation. Finished in anthracite grey powder coating, the unit blends into the surrounding cityscape. The penthouse demonstrates Gilberts’ in-house project management capability, especially in a fast-track

scenario. From initial discussions around the objective, Gilberts devised the concept, developed the design through all stages, manufactured and installed. The sheer scale of the penthouse meant it had to be craned in sections from street level whilst minimising disruption to the busy city centre. Gilberts managed the whole process in close liaison with James Mercer Group, completing the unit by building it up in sections once in place on the roof. Gilberts is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of louvres for plant ventilation and screening, developed

over the years to provide a comprehensive package to keep pace with the evolution of building design and structural interfaces, initially and as/if the building structure is altered. Options include standard and high performance, factory- and site- assembled, and acoustic variants. Founded over half a century ago, and still family-owned, Gilberts is the UK’s leading independent air movement engineer. It is unique in its ability to design, manufacture and test all products- including bespoke fabrications- in-house, to the extent it even designs and manufactures its own tools at its 140,000 sq ft head office and production facility.

Semi-transparent lids for new Q-Nect IP junction boxes

U

nicrimp, part of the Scolmore Group of companies, continues to expand its Q-Nect range of lever connectors and junction boxes. The latest additions to the range are IP66-rated, weatherproof junction boxes with semi-transparent lids. The addition of the semi-transparent lid takes the IP

Box to the next level, allowing you to see the inside connections without compromising the integrity of the enclosure. The Q-Nect IP66 junction box is designed to make installations more efficient. It can house four of the

3 Port Lever Connectors using the 360° detachable cradle and with a curved lid, it provides additional space for wires. The lid is locked using quarter turn fasteners. The semi-transparent lids are available on the IP66 Weatherproof Enclosure that is furnished with 4 X 3 Way Lever Connectors. The junction box features ten membrane entry points. Protection against moisture and dust is enhanced with the self-sealing membranes which provide a faster and more secure cable entry whilst at the same time maintaining the IP66 rating. Installers have the option of using up to eight M20 cable glands with the junction box. The M20 threaded entries with membrane ensure that the IP rating is maintained without needing to use any tools or locknuts. Multiple fixing options are available – either fixing directly to a wall using four screws into the pre- moulded holes in the base or using the detachable wall clip which requires just two screws. The new junction boxes with semi-transparent lids are available in a black or anthracite grey finish,

with the anthracite grey colour option designed to match the Click Scolmore Aquip66 weatherproof socket and switch enclosures, which are also available with the same semi-transparent lids. A comprehensive Q-Nect brochure can be downloaded from the Unicrimp website – www.unicrimp. com - as well as from the Scolmore Group app.
