SPONSORS INSTALLATION NEWS L

EATHERHEAD, UK, 12 Dec 2022 – Toshiba Air Conditioning is transforming its approach to equipment commissioning, warranty registration and installer training to provide a simple and quick online

system with major benefits for contractors and end-users. Toshiba Carrier UK Ltd (TCUK) is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions. The online commissioning and warranty tools are now fully integrated,

with Toshiba Air Conditioning’s web-based training portal feeding into the same system and keeping all relevant information updated. “We wanted to keep things as simple as possible and bring everything

together, because training, warranties and commissioning are so closely linked,’’ said Cameron Beech, DX & VRF Product Manager, TCUK. “We have created a logical, paper-free environment which is more environmentally responsible and accessible.’’ The automated system works for both direct and distribution

customers, while end users can see all their equipment across multiple sites, together with maintenance records and warranty claims. Each customer has a single login to the commissioning and warranty

tool, with engineers linked to the account. Training data is automatically generated by the training portal, showing qualifications gained and expiry dates for each engineer. The dashboard shows pending and open warranty claims, the number of trained engineers and a list of sites. From here, the customer can add end user details, site information

and see eligible warranty levels before selecting the equipment. Once all items are chosen from the drop-down menus, a final page shows the complete equipment list for a project, together with downloadable warranty certificates to send to the end user. To date, customer response has been positive with more than 3,000 commissionings and 100 warranty claims logged through the portal. Toshiba Air Conditioning is committed to improving industry standards and bases its warranty scheme on installer competence, experience

www.toshiba-aircon.co.uk Gilberts delivers “fantastic” performance for Virgin’s UK first G

ilberts has risen to the challenge of delivering indoor air quality to a constantly evolving brief for a high profile, luxury hotel. The new Virgin Hotel in Edinburgh is the first in the UK for

the global brand and has overcome a complex array of challenges in its construction over the past four years. The £65m, 222- bedroomed venue sits in the heart of the ancient city- a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Three listed buildings have been merged into a cohesive whole with the addition of new build elements and a suspended glass link bridge. The build team of ICA Studios (architects), Thomas Johnstone (main contractors) and Emtec (building services) worked closely with the supply chain to deliver the brief. With not a single straight wall to work from within the existing fabric, the specification inevitably had to flex to accommodate almost daily discoveries and problems whilst enhancing as many of the original historic features as possible. Emtec turned to Britain’s leading independent air movement specialist Gilberts to supply all the ventilation grilles and diffusers to ensure supply and return of air from the variable refrigerant flow (VRF)

system to the whole hotel. A stand-out element has been Gilberts’ GHV double deflection grilles,

specially produced in a bronze finish to sit within 200 years-old wood panelled walls. Gilberts provided a raft of different powder coated finishes to the

diverse LG linear bar grilles in the bedrooms. The DG4 louvre faced diffusers, GSF swirl diffusers and GSLS linear slot diffusers utilised to supply the correct ambient conditions throughout the hotel were similarly specified in various colours to reflect the aesthetics required for each area. Explained Bobby Armstrong, Senior Contracts Manager Building

Services @ Emtec, “Virgin as a brand is committed towards sustainability and is committed towards achieving LEED Gold or Silver standards in all of its hotels, hence the choice of VRF to cool and heat the Edinburgh hotel. The main issue for us was choosing grilles and diffusers that complimented and enhanced the building fabric, rather than try to mimic it.

Transformed Former Marks & Spencer Building Features Award-winning Toshiba Air Conditioning

M

ANCHESTER, England, 2 Dec. 2022 – A former Marks & Spencer building in Stockport has been transformed into a modern office, retail and leisure facility, equipped with high efficiency air

conditioning based on an award-winning Toshiba SHRM-e heat recovery Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system. Toshiba Carrier UK Ltd (TCUK) is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions. The project, by developer Glenbrook, involved remodelling the

64,000-square-foot building, including creation of a new full-height glazed atrium, an outdoor terrace and high-end office accommodation across two open-plan floors, with leisure and retail facilities in the basement and ground floor, all efficiently heated and cooled by Toshiba Air Conditioning solutions. Five separate Toshiba three-pipe VRF systems were installed by

Coolair Services, working for Medway Heating under main contractor City Build, with Toshiba VN heat recovery ventilation systems – installed

by Ventilation Design Services – providing fresh air to the building. “The remodelled building has completely open ceilings, giving a contemporary, spacious feeling,” said David McSherry, Head of Sales, Toshiba Air Conditioning UK, Carrier Global Comfort Solutions Europe. “This means ductwork is exposed to retain the clean, industrial design. To accommodate this and prevent the risk of condensation forming on ducting, the fresh air system is engineered to operate with a maximum of 14 degrees Celsius air-off temperature.” The Toshiba ceiling-suspended cassettes are painted in a bespoke

black livery to match the contemporary lighting frames. Outdoor condensers are mounted on the rooftop, on a specially constructed support frame. “The project was very much a collaborative effort,” said Ben Marland, Contracts Manager, Coolair Services. “The TCUK team provided excellent technical support, producing the engineering calculations and system drawings, with timely updates when there were changes on site. Their design and support capabilities were an important factor in the decision to

go with the Toshiba Air Conditioning solution, due to the project’s design requirements.” Each VRF system is connected to a

central touch screen controller, enabling the landlord to set comfort and performance parameters separately for each zoned area of the building. Toshiba’s SHRM-e system has won every major UK air conditioning accolade for its outstanding efficiency and performance. When introduced it broke new ground in terms of compressor design, controls, and wireless communications, extending the application envelope for VRF into new territory. The system achieves an ESEER (European Seasonal Energy Efficiency

Ratio) of 8 and above in most capacities, an industry first, and an ESEER exceeding 7 for all capacities. The Toshiba VRF system supports Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social & Governance goals of reducing its customers’ carbon footprint by more than 1 gigaton.

Toshiba Air Conditioning Introduces New Integrated Approach to Commissioning, Warranty and Installer Training Systems

and knowledge, rather than ability to spend. The T5 Standard five- year warranty is available to F-Gas registered engineers, the T7 Approved warranty requires successful completion of three mandatory Toshiba Air Conditioning training qualifications, and the T7 Enhanced warranty is open only to businesses that are part of the REFCOM Elite scheme, which requires advanced quality assurance procedures. For all three levels, the online warranty tool enables customers to

easily add claims, with email confirmation sent once each claim has been dealt with by the warranty administrator. Approved claims are credited at the end of the month they are completed. “With the advances in technology, we felt integrated systems were

a key way to improve and further develop our customer experience,” Cameron Beech added. “Further improvements to the database platform and an enhanced re-design are planned for early 2023.’’
