EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS

his issue, alongside the steadfast planned-for features and favourites such as the News pages with their quotes and appointments, there are a couple of new features to fit with these times. The first is the Future Focus page, looking at “Building back Better and Healthier” which seems to have become the latest slogan of 2021. From Joe Biden to Boris Johnson, the post-pandemic vision is all about resetting economies and driving growth through more progressive economic and technological methods. In the UK, the vision is for a ‘green industrial revolution’ backed by £12bn in government investment, which could create up to 250,000

new jobs. Decarbonising the heating and cooling sectors sits at the heart of its 10-point plan, which includes a pledge to tackle energy efficiency in hospitals, schools, and other public buildings through the £1bn Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

The next newcomer to our February issue is the Brexit Comment page, where Pagabo’s Jonathan Oram discusses the changes expected in public sector procurement following the UK’s departure from the EU. No longer bound by the EU’s regulations, the UK government has had the freedom to begin the process of reviewing the current suite of procurement regulations. The

government’s ‘Transforming Public Procurement’ green paper has some interesting thoughts around trying to bring public sector procurement into something that is more suitable for the sector as a whole, acknowledging that not one size fits all and that there are shortcomings in the current processes.

Of course, we also keep our old favourites, with this month’s BCIA Industry Comment from president Terry Sharp, who provides an update on the Trailblazer Standard and discusses a potential shift toward long term remote working policies.
