EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS Efficient HVAC strengthens critical buildings
T
he importance of well-designed, intelligently managed HVAC systems in the efficient running of medical and education buildings has never
been clearer. As the NHS continues to wrestle with decarbonisation targets and universities face unprecedented financial pressures, the performance of building services is now intrinsically linked not only to environmental outcomes, but to operational resilience and long-term cost control.
This month’s issue highlights how incremental
improvements can deliver meaningful progress. Danfoss demonstrates that small adjustments in how energy flows throughout a building can unlock significant efficiency gains. (PG18) In the higher education sector, TROX UK draws attention to an often-overlooked opportunity. Science laboratories, among the most energy-intensive spaces
on campus, represent a major lever for carbon and cost reduction. The feature examines what measures universities and research labs can take and how their suppliers in the HVAC sector can assist them. (PG14) With ventilation one of the most closely examined aspects of building design, Breathing Buildings explores how new low-carbon ventilation solutions can help schools meet both sustainability ambitions and their duty of care. (PG19)
Finally, a case study on Barnfield College showcases
Aermec’s six-pipe system, delivering lower emissions and substantial energy savings for a leading Bedfordshire FE college. (PG16) Other features this month include: Building Controls
& Technology; Air Source & Ground Source Heat Pumps; and Fire, Health & Safety.
