New thermostats offer modern, energy-efficient control

A

new range of standalone thermostats has been launched by

Siemens to offer advanced functionality in an elegant design which provides comprehensive heating and/ or cooling control for the evolving needs of a wide range of residential and light commercial applications. Available in landscape and

portrait orientations in a smooth, white design, the RDL standalone room thermostats feature responsive touch button controls with a high contrast e-paper display to ensure reliable operation, clear legibility and reduced power consumption. Conscious of the increasing demands of Boiler Plus and the role that OpenTherm will play as an

open digital communication protocol for heating system components, Siemens has designed the RDL thermostats to be future-proof as new market developments are introduced. So far four new options have been launched: the RDL211 (standalone portrait version), RDL211/H

(standalone landscape version), RDL211RF.SET (wireless version) and RDL131RF.SET (OpenTherm version using wireless communications back to the boiler interface unit). The first three can be used in heating only or heating and cooling applications while the latter is for heating only. Additional options will be rolled out later to further extend opportunities. They can be used in reversible heat pumps and radiant floor cooling/chilled ceiling, as well as

traditional gas boiler systems. Easy commissioning is ensured through single-tap device configuration via a smartphone app or

through a thermostat user interface. The NFC setup interface reduces installation time and complexity. The thermostats can be wall-mounted via a mounting plate or freestanding with a table stand. The range has been designed to meet the needs of a residential thermostat market that is seeing an increasing demand for energy efficiency, regulatory compliance and easy operation. As a programmable solution, the thermostats are well positioned to support compliance while enhancing user comfort and control.
