EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS The End of 2020!

n March, few of us would have thought how this year would unfold. Now, with perfect 20/20 hindsight (pun intended) there are certainly things that we’d want to do differently and perhaps other things that have been surprisingly changed for the better. This issue we have a special feature, ‘This Year’, to look back on some of the major events in our industry which would normally have been great occasions for meeting and

networking, but were instead forced to roll with the punches of a global pandemic.

With Lockdown 1 and 2 this year and the grinding halt of the everyday shopping, movement and day-to-day growth of normal life, it is fairly unsurprising that one of the biggest features in this month’s issue is Maintenance & Refurbishment. The ‘Make Do and Mend’ attitude is one that falls well into line with recent environmental targets and has been a major inspiration for architects, product designers and the forward-thinkers of our industry.

Our Environmental Awareness feature this month looks at the target to completely cut out fossil fuel heating in homes, in line with the new government deadline of 2025. What with the new vehicle laws coming into place, I’m sure we will all be flying electric cars by 2050!

From myself and the BSEE team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you again in 2021.
