EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS Saving energy in commercial buildings

T

he cost of living crisis coupled with inflated energy bills continue to dominate conversations about efficiency in commercial buildings.

If you’re involved in buildings services, it’s highly likely you are having to scrutinise your systems and processes in order to make them as efficient as possible.

That’s why this issue of BSEE is almost entirely devoted to energy saving techniques, ideas, products and success stories for industrial and commercial buildings. From making sure you are getting optimum

performance from your heating systems, to energy efficient lighting, to numerous smart solutions, there is plenty here for the buildings services manager with a keen eye on not only reducing energy consumption but also cutting carbon emissions.

For instance, where housing associations are looking to encourage behavioural changes in the social housing market, Insite Energy offers some advice on the convenience and control of smart meters. (pg 6)

Other digital tools highlighted include the tried and tested Building Energy Management System (BEMS), the benefits of which are explained by BCIA president Graeme Rees on pg 7.

Lighting solutions that make every watt count

are detailed in our Lighting & Lighting Controls feature starting on page 12, and finally EnOcean explores how the clever use of sensors can balance efficiency and wellbeing in smart spaces on pg 18. This is a must read for the energy conscious building services manager.
