or more than seven years Metrel has lead the measurement and testing of electrical vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and the safety of electrical vehicles (EV) in Britain. Metrel continues to lead by including EVSE testing firmware on all price levels of its multi-function testers and by offering a choice of adapter to check the charger function and give access to the electrical system behind it for testing. Now introducing the DC EVSE adapter A 1732 has taken diagnostic and safety testing on Mode 3 and Mode 4 systems to new heights. Using the multi-function tester MI 3155 as its controller the A 1732 adapter tests sequentially charger function, insulation monitoring device (IMD) operation, PE conductor integrity. error and emergency shutdown times. Metrel has also added an Electric Vehicle Safety Tester MI 3132 to the range. This tough long working test tool is powered by rechargeable Li-Ion batteries and with an IP 56 rating is ideal for outdoor use. MI 3132 tests DC insulation from 50 to 1500 V and measures insulation up to 5 GΩ, according to UN ECE R100 and ISO 6469-3. It offers continuity measurement at the standard 200 mA as well as 7 mA to test through the protection systems. The MI 3132 has the benefit of true micro ohmmeter capability, using 2 A measuring current, to bond test EV chassis and component down to 1 µΩ. The MI 3132’s clear, easily-read touch-screen guides users through the sequence from testing of the vehicle, storing the results in its enormous memory, for down loading and reporting.
