possible time. So we were delighted that Intero - The Sniffers worked efficiently with two people to carry out all of the LDAR measurements, and compressed air and nitrogen checks.” Carpinteri adds: “When we are carrying out compressed air and nitrogen measurements of our pipelines, checking the status of the interconnecting pipeline is by far the most important element. That’s why, rather than having a reactive approach to taking measurements, we prefer to take a preventative stance. However, it is a very challenging task for us to check 5km of pipelines by ourselves which is why we asked Intero - The Sniffers to do it for us using the best instrumentation they had at their disposal. The Fluke Precision Acoustic Imager measurement devices were ideal.” As well as being “intrinsically safe”, Carpinteri
says that a major benefit of the ii910 - which he says he has recommended to other oil and gas companies - is that it helps to cut costs by enabling operators to carry out measurements without the need for any infrastructure, such as scaffolding, around the site, even in non- accessible areas. Also, because all real-time leaks and images are provided visually, this makes it easy for operators to comprehend the full scale of any emissions.
STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS “It’s an excellent methodology,” he says of Fluke’s Precision Acoustic Imager. “It is intuitive and very clear in terms of identifying where leakages occur. With this equipment, the whole pipeline can now
be assessed by one person remaining in the same position. If our stakeholders ask us to present the report with found leaks and the locations of the leaks, it is important for us to have this data available in an as up-to-date and accurate form as possible so we can rapidly pass on the information when required.”
Bas Hermans, operations director of the Emission Division at Intero - The Sniffers points out how sustainability goals are becoming increasingly important as the world combats climate change and the Fluke equipment has played an essential role in enabling Air Liquide to meet its targets while also minimising overall expenditure.
“By controlling leaks over time,” says Hermans, “we can see how it’s possible to achieve significant improvements in energy efficiency which can translate into substantial reductions in energy costs through decreases in wastage. The environmental benefits of finding and fixing leaks in the shortest possible time are indisputable and Air Liquide is committed to being one of the most environmentally-friendly organisations on the planet. Armed with the ii910, Intero - The Sniffers are delighted to be playing a key role in turning that ambition into reality.”
Pressure transmitters and level sensors with digital interfaces are perfect for customised solutions. Their low supply voltage and optimised power consumption make them ideal for battery-operated and wireless applications.
