EV charging to generate $300bn globally by 2027 A

new study has found sales from electric vehicle charging will exceed $300 billion (£249.4bn) globally by 2027; up from $66bn in 2023.

The report from Juniper Research, EV Charging: Key Opportunities, Regional Analysis & Market Forecasts 2023-2027, found fragmentation in charging networks is restricting EV adoption. Juniper Research said: “Chargers are

overwhelmingly located in urban areas; leading to widespread range anxiety among potential drivers. This is coupled with the

difficulty of accessing charging points via different apps and cards, as well as lack of standards for charging vehicles at the same rate. “As such, EV charging networks must

simplify access and work with local authorities to roll out chargers to a wider range of locations, or the EV market will struggle to accelerate.”

The research also predicts by 2027, the total number of plug-in vehicles will surpass 137 million globally; up from 49m in 2023

New panel extends room control capabilities

ECS Annual Review highlights raising standards

he Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) has released its 2022 Annual Review, which highlights the cross-industry engagement to raise competency standards, the ongoing success of ECS Check, and the launch of the CSCS Smart Check app.

T

ECS works alongside more than 100 organisations across electrical, fire and security, digital, network infrastructure, building controls, audio-visual, and the wider electrotechnical sector to collectively raise standards.

iemens continues to expand the offering from its KNX Gamma building control range with the release of the second generation of the KNX Touch Control TC5 panel. Building on the success of its award-winning predecessor, the new version retains the elegant and modern design but offers a number of new features, further improving the aesthetics and the intuitive operating concept.

The 5in aluminium and glass panel device is available in a black or white finish and can be mounted in portrait or landscape orientations, making it suited to an even wider range of applications. With its updated firmware, the

TC5 offers the potential to operate as an all-in-one KNX room control device, with multiple pages to enable configuration of all desired room functions through the ETS software, including the display of

data gathered by external sensors. This software also allows numerous settings, such as the three different options for temperature display on the homepage: internal sensor, external sensor or alternating every five seconds.

The room temperature controller supports a range of HVAC applications, from heating and ventilating to fan coils, VRF (variable refrigerant flow), chilled ceiling and floor heating.

Comprehensive lighting functionality is provided for switching and dimming, as well as the capacity for Human Centric Lighting and solar protection through shading control. It also optimises indoor air quality, providing alerts for even the smallest of harmful particles such as PM2.5, PM10, CO2 and VOC (volatile organic compounds).

organisations have now registered with ECS Check, the free to access digital system that allows main contractors and clients to verify the ECS card of electrical personnel working on projects.

April 2022 saw the launch of CSCS Smart Check,

representing a historical and

progressive step forward in building quality and safety. For the

first time, all 2.1 million cards displaying the CSCS logo can be verified using a single app. Jay Parmar, chief executive of the JIB, said “ECS continues to play a crucial role in making the electrotechnical industry a forward-thinking and progressive sector that pushes for improvements in standards and competency. “This Annual Review highlights the discussions, innovations and dedicated hard work that all contribute to raising the bar across multiple related sectors. ECS will continue to be a leading voice driving forward the change agenda to improve standards and deliver innovation across the wider industry.”
