HOW DESIGN ENGINEERS CAN LEVERAGE GAINS FROM NEXT-GENERATION EDGE AI SOLUTIONS

emand for the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and models directly on edge devices is rising among


design engineers. The reason is obvious: this approach brings AI


capabilities closer to the application, enabling faster processing, reduced latency, and improved privacy, all without relying on centralised cloud servers for processing. Here, Advantech is offering a further competitive advantage to designers: robust, low-TDP AI-on-Module, solutions featuring next-generation System-on-Computer platforms in small form factors from prominent market players such as Qualcomm, NVIDIA, RockChip and NXP, with the option to enhance them with AI acceleration modules.


Mission & Critical AI-on-Modules solutions will enable the next generation of rapidly growing segments of battery- powered applications like drones and autonomous devices for the defence industry. The latest AI technology on more powerful SOCs with integrated NPU and enhanced features for connectivity is helping to develop more functionality. AI model building and deploying is supported by more toolsets and existing example models to start with. Expected AI performance can be measured even better at the beginning of a development cycle. Next-generation edge AI is an enabler, helping


designers to meet the core objectives of this demanding sector. The industry’s long time to market and specific


requirements also mean that design engineers are already looking ahead, planning to do things with hardware that do not yet exist. Tapping into the near-future availability of ready-configured edge AI modules from Advantech is, therefore, both appealing and economic.


Commercial applications As a point of note, this prospect is far from exclusive to the defense industry. Europe is witnessing growing demand in commercial applications of Edge AI.
