POWER CONTINUITY -FICTION OR FACT? FACT IS GREATER THAN FICTION - HERE IS THE PROOF

PowerContinuity engineers operate every day of the year, protecting the power of the most well known companies in the UK. The company designs the best automatic power protection systems in the UK, from concept through to implementation.

With its experience in this sector, PowerContinuity knows that to work with the best, you have to be the best. Sometimes though, human failings can have a devastating impact on your company and its continuous operations, read on...

W

ithin a large organisation, management structures can lead to

a ‘void’ as to who is actually responsible for your data centres and comms control. Ownership can be assumed, but not until something goes wrong does accountability become a serious issue for a company.

- How do you distinguish between fiction and fact?

- Who has ownership of your data centre?

- Who has responsibility for your operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week?

- Who has the updated records for all servers and racks in your data centre or comms room environment ?

TAKE THE POWER CONTINUITY TWO MINUTE TEST For peace of mind, ask yourself can you separate the fact from the fiction? FICTION: Someone is responsible,

although I have no idea whom. FACT: Accountability and responsibility for the day to day operational status must be a named individual. Can you

PowerContinuity design and install 100 per cent NO BREAK power protection systems

name that person today? FICTION: Surely we have an automatic

power protection system, that is tested? FACT: Where are the test reports

proving that it has been tested regularly? FICTION: There is no need for a

generator power protection system, we have a UPS. FACT: No generator means no genuine power protection system. FICTION: Power cuts do not happen

here; we are safe. FACT: Power cuts can happen

anywhere, anytime. The grid is under continuous pressure. FICTION: Brown outs and spikes do not

bother our IT servers, not my problem. FACT: IT servers can take hours to

reboot, losing production and profit. FICTION: I am told we have two supplies, A and B, so we must not require generators. FACT: HV rings do fail. Breakers do trip

out. UPS systems do require generators backup for genuine power continuity. Having A and B feeds is a start, but now you must upgrade. FICTION: We do have an A and B feed

so we are OK…yes? FACT: No. Static switches are the only way to ensure power continuity. Of course these do need to be backed up by automatic generators. FICTION: It does not matter what servers we use, as they all have the same specification. FACT: No, they do not. There is an

industry standard of a minimum 20mS hold up time for servers, yet if this is not specified it can vary widely. Together with degradation over time, this will cause servers to fail. Has this ever been tested by your IT dept? Probably not. This check list provides a basic rule of thumb to differentiate between fiction and fact. If you not comfortable with your answers, just call PowerContinuity and the company’s staff will help you. The company consists of all engineers, so you will never be speaking with sales who work on commission. True power continuity is available only

from PowerContinuity. The company not only design automatic dual feed power protection systems, but also service and maintain 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether it be LV or HV, PowerContinuity can keep your infrastructure operational. PowerContinuity train site personnel on

to how to test the systems, what to look for and how to react, no fiction just fact, keeping 100 per cent power continuity at all times. To enquire about how PowerContinuity can be your business protection partner call 0845 055 8455 or visit the website below.
