Clean air? Not possible

without AI innovation By JD Ambati, CEO and Founder of AI and robotics company EverestLabs

hen was the last time you thought about clean air? It might not be something you think about on a daily basis, and the fact of the matter is that most of us take it for granted. When you are feeling stressed, chances are you step outside for a breath of fresh air, or maybe you spend time outside to be more in tune with nature. But did you know that we, as humans, have a direct impact on how clean our air truly is? At the household and manufacturing level, the actions we take have consequences, especially when it comes to creating a world full of clean air. Sustainability and clean air go hand in hand. The amount of waste the United States produces

each year impacts air quality more than we might realise. Did you know that the U.S. creates 268 million tons of waste each year, with 140 tons of trash wasting away in landfills? These numbers mean that the average American is throwing away nearly 4.5 pounds of trash each and every day, and actually, a large portion of that number is made up of recyclable materials. These numbers show just how widespread the epidemic of waste production has become.

Not only does this waste harm the environment, but it harms the air we breathe. Studies show that Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfills create 14.4 per cent of methane emissions, which is the

largest source of human-made methane emissions. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas responsible for increasing climate change and global warming. These numbers show that humans directly impact global warming, and taking action now is necessary to halt and hopefully reverse the effects of climate change that harm the environment.

Climate change and the influx of greenhouse gas emissions are solvable issues, but it will take action at multiple levels with multiple stakeholders. Packaging manufacturers and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies play a crucial role in helping to solve the climate change crisis. These
