FEATURE HAZARDOUS AREA EQUIPMENT BEKA BEACON GAINS IECEX E2S LED BEACON TECHNOLOGY AT OTC

safe LED flashing beacon now has IECEx certification in addition to it is original ATEX and FM approvals. Industry proven and available with a red, amber, green, blue or white output, the beacon produces two bright double flashes per second. It is housed in an IP66 enclosure that may be installed in all zones and used with most hazardous industrial gases. The BA386 beacon may be used alone, or in conjunction

with a BEKA BR385 intrinsically safe sounder. The high efficiency of the BA386 enables the beacon and the sounder to be powered from the same Zener barrier or galvanic isolator, which reduces purchase and installation costs. The beacon incorporates an alarm accept function, enabling an operator to silence the associated sounder for a pre-set time by operating an external push button, but leave the beacon flashing at twice its normal rate. If the alarm is not cleared, the sounder will be reactivated at the end of the silence time. The sounder silence time may be pre-set for between one and 30 minutes by an internal control. On Booth 1339 from 30 April to 3 May at OTC Houston, E2S Warning Signals is featuring its LED beacons technology. The LED units offer extended operating life of more than 60,000 hours, lower current requirements and higher output levels. The typical light output level from the LED units is a very bright 338 candela, significantly higher than the 120 candela effective intensity of a 5J Xenon tube unit.

The LED beacons have five flash rates

for warning beacon applications: 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0Hz and double and triple flashes. They also offer high and low steady outputs for status indicator use. DC voltage versions feature three remotely selectable stages, enabling multiple warnings to be signalled from one device. The same light engines and control electronics are common across all different product families: the STEx 316L stainless steel, the GNEx and E2x GRP, and the BEx and D2x marine grade LM6 aluminium enclosures, which provide a variety of mechanical protection, corrosion resistance, weight and price to suit different requirements.

For all families, the amber, blue, clear, green, magenta, red and yellow polycarbonate, UV stable lenses are available as separate items; whilst enhancing the light output, the lens filters are also field replaceable without disassembly, enabling the reassignment of beacon function to be a simple and quick process. Also on show will be two manual call

point families, the latest additions to E2S’s SIL2 capable products that meet the remote monitoring and testing requirements of SIL2 systems. The spark-resistant, corrosion proof GRP GNExCP6 and the marine grade, copper free LM6 (A413) aluminium BExCP3 explosion proof manual call points are certified to ATEX and IECEx standards.

ATEX certified humidity and temperature sensors T

he Rotronic Intrinsically Safe HygroFlex5-EX series of humidity,

moisture and temperature sensors were developed for easy installation in areas where there is a risk of explosion due to dust or gas in the environment. They were designed to meet the demanding requirements of the oil and gas industry, as well as the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food industries, and will be suitable for hazardous applications elsewhere. Conforming to the latest international standards, the Rotronic HygroFlex5-EX transmitter is galvanically isolated, so there is no need for an intrinsically safe power supply, ‘clean’ earth or Zener barrier, thereby saving costs and installation time. ATEX certified probes are available for

all applications. The intrinsically safe transmitters have two channel 4, 20mA outputs selected from temperature, humidity or a moisture value, such as

dew point or ‘absolute humidity’ (for example mixing ratio g/kg). These can be freely scaled exactly as required, using Rotronic HW4 software, for the process being monitored or controlled. Some of the main features include

stainless steel probes certified for ATEX Zone 0/20, standard and cable mount probes with a screw-in probe for pressure applications and a HygroFlex5- EX measurement transmitter, certified for Zone 1/21. As well as this, an intrinsically safe power supply is not required and the transmitter is galvanically isolated. Wall and duct versions are available and an LC display is an option.
