“A happy version of you will be most effective in business and in personal relationships”
What would you say is the most important message people can take away from your book? KB: Te most important theme is: don’t just whiteboard your business – whiteboard yourself. A happy version of you will be most effective in both business and personal relationships. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder early and denied it. Sometimes it made me a good restaurateur, but not always the best person. I ignored it for too long. Rock bottom is a gift if you survive it. Te restaurant business saved my life and gave me purpose every morning.
Purpose is a great focus. Are there any other topics you look forward to addressing at the conference? What will consultants be able to learn from your story? KB: I talk about my three pillars of life: 1) Do I wake up with purpose, and is that purpose noble? 2) Do I engage with people I like, love, and respect, and can I impact their lives? 3) If I watched the movie of my life with these people, would I be comfortable viewing unedited footage? In short: do I wake up with purpose, and am I proud of the life I’m living? Most other things fall into place when these are in place.
Finally, what’s your favorite thing about Phoenix? KB: I’m a huge baseball fan, so I come for spring training. I’m also into wellness and Arizona has long led the field in that sector.
