INTERVIEW WITH
ANDY WILSON, MD on his first year in charge
and a look at the future
How would you describe your first 16 months at KCS?
Full-on. Inspiring. Rewarding.
How do you plan to add value to KCS customers going forward?
By regularly visiting our customers and listening carefully, by being honest when we get things wrong, by always trying to improve.
What’s the most exciting part of your job? Working with an amazing team every day!
What was your first job?
I collected shopping trolleys in the car park (and surrounding streets) at Sainsbury’s.
What was your favourite subject in school? My two real academic passions were English literature and human geography.
If you could have a conversation with your younger self, what would you tell them?
Aim high and always be kind.
Are you an early bird or a night owl? Probably an early bird, helped by a decent latte :)
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spend time with my family and dawgs (as we call them). I love football, golf, travelling and eating good food.
Is there a quote/mantra you live by? Don’t worry – be happy.
If you could have a superpower, what would you choose?
My shortlist would include invisibility and mind-reading, but I would definitely choose being able to fly.
Who inspired you most in your career?
In one way or another – all of the people who have worked for me. I have always felt a deep duty of care to do the right thing as their leader and to look out for them. My wife, Anjula, has been an ongoing inspiration too.
Can you recommend a TV series or podcast?
I really like ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘After Life’ had some memorable moments.
Cats or Dogs?!
Dogs (dawgs). We have two cockerpoos. Oddly, we called the first one ‘Wilson’ (our family surname) and the younger one is Alfie. They are our first dogs and fill our days with entertaining incidents! :)
