Emergency services were called to the accident, which happened just before 9 am at the junction of Wiswell Lane and the A671 Accring ton Road bypass, near Whalley. A quick-thinking passer-by managed to pull the driver from the Toyota to safety, before both motorists were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital and treated for their injuries. V. Vandals smash windscreen

If you saw anything suspicious, please call Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

The Lions of Clitheroe celebrated 32 years of service to the local community and international charities at their re cent dinner at the Spread Eagle Hotel in Sawley. They were joined by other Lions Cltib members, including membersoftherecentlyre-formed WhalleyLions Club, and other guests. During an interval in the proceedings, Lewis Bowes, win ner of the recent GRAB high schools talent contest at The Gand in Clitheroe, which is sponsoredby Clitheroe Lions • Club, played five compositions on the ukulele. Artistic seven are pride of their college

Sevenformer Ribble Valley highschoolpupilswhohave gone on to study atStMary’s College, Blackburn, have allfaeen offered places on the prestigious Foundation Art

course at Manchester Metropolitan University. It is unusual for so many applicants from the same establishment to be accepted.

All seven are currently studying A-Level fine art, among other subjects, at St Mary’s art department. The course offers the traditional route to studying art and design at

higher education, which enables the students to experience and develop a wide vari ety of art and design techniques and media. Andrea Westall, Head of Art, said: “We are immensely proud of all our students’ hard work. It is lovely to see that they are widely appreciated by other art institutions. We were particularly delighted by the diverse portfolios that the students put together.” The students are (from left): Alfie Verity, ex-Ribblesdale, from Blackburn (fine art); Felix Anwyl, ex-St Augustine’s, from Blackburn (fine art/graphics); Millie Chadwick, ex-St Augustine’s, from Blackburn (fine art/textiles); George Brown, ex-St Augus tine’s, from Burnley (fine art/graphics); Hannah Cunliffe-Lee, ex-Bowland High, from Clitheroe (fine art/textiles); Kate Robinson, ex-Clitheroe Grammar, from Clitheroe (fine art/digital photography); Tara Porter, ex-Ribblesdale, from Clitheroe (fine art/ digital photography).

About 280,000 cases of food poisoning in the UK each year are traced back to Campylo bacter, a germ found mostly on raw chicken. Britain is a nation of chick

en-eaters, with a recent Food Standards Agency survey re vealing that 73% of respond ents ate chicken every week. Now, the agency wants to

cut the number_of cases of Campylobacter poisoning in half by the end of 2015 and Ribble Valley residents are invited to take part by joining the ‘chicken challenge’ during Food Safety Week from May 18th to 24th. Ribble Valley Borough

Council’s head of environ mental health, James Russell, said: “Let’shearitforthehum- ble chicken. We love it. It’s healthy and versatile, brings us together around the table

BluesmascotDominicSteele Roebucks Solicitors was

the matchday sponsor for Clit heroe FC’s recent local derby match at home to Padiham FC. As sponsor it was up to Roe

bucks, who have busy office in King Street, to nominate the local club’s mascot for the day. They chose young Dominic Steele, a keen fan of the Blues and the nephew of one of Roe bucks’ team of solicitors, Gina Steele. Unfortunately the home

side.lost 4-1 to their near neighbours Padiham, but it was still an exciting day for young Dominic, who will re member it for a long time to come.
