before.Bothmymedals, with all respect to the Lancashire FA, go in the bin. “I don’t want to be a runner-
up. That will give theladsataste for it and from a personal level I want to get to any final I can. I want to be pushing up the league too.” "Garner, who was in Peter
Smith’s starting XI when the Blues lost'4-0 to Southport in the competition in 2010, added: “Theclubhascomeonleapsand
bounds. “It’s always been a great club.
It is only little but we’ve got a great nucleus of fans. “It’s a stepping stone and
that’s the way I’ve got to look at it. I want to keep that group of players together and add to it. Weneedtostrengthenwhichis obviousbecausewe’reonlyi2th

. It’s a learning curve and if they gethereagain.whichhopefully theywill, that will stand them in good stead. . “Iwanttotryandpushonfor
the play-offs. I don’t want to be a mid-table team. The quality is there. Hopefully that will bean eye-openerforthem.” .. Having conceded from a set-
piece, a penalty and a breaka way, Garner feels his players were the perpetrators of their own downfall. . Tmdisappointedtolosebut I’m more disappointed in the
way we played,” Garner said. “We let ourselves down really with the start we had and con ceding so early. “Ourworstnightmarecame
to fruition really because some, ofthe lads froze. “There’safew inexperienced
lads at this level and unfortu nately it did count. There were a few rabbits in the headlights.- “I’m disappointed with the
manner of the goals we gave away. They’re blooper type ones. It’s horrible defending and you can’t justify it.”
Garner’s haul came in pro motion hopefuls North End’s 5-1 demolition of Crewe, following in the footsteps of Preston legend Alex Bruce against Col chester in February 1978. Prior to that, you have
to go back to December 1950 to Charlie Wayman atQPR. A total of 17 players have
scored four in one match for Preston in their his tory, and Garner said: “It is always nice to score a hat-trick and to get four is a great feeling. “I’ve not scored four in
a game before and to do it here at Deepdale is even better. .. . “ It is another three
points and we are sat nice ly in the league. “I’ve always said that
I am confident of scoring goals at this level.” The former Blackburn
Rovers youngster now has 20 goals from 31 appear ances so far this season.
