The loss of friends and fam ily members to cancer has inspiredtwo Ribble Valley
women to raise money for re search into the killer disease.
Lisa ffcorah (34) and Rebecca House (37), who both work as .
police officers in Blackburn, have taken it upon themselves to raise money by a variety of methods. Lisa explained: “Rebecca
recently lost her dad to cancer and has described the disease as ‘ripping through her family’. Phillip, was just 66 and diedjust months after he retired. Philwasaleadinglightinthe

A charity night to boost the two £150 photographic studio ca
for caravan
The fate of a controversial application to create a cara-
■ van park in Langho looks set to be decided tonight.
The application for the site, which will go before Ribble Valley’s planning and devel- opmentcommittee, includes plans for 21 caravans and an
outdoor play area. Dozensofobjectionshave
been made to the scheme, which has been recom mended for conditional ap proval, and local residents claim to have evidence that the true nature of the appli cation is not a recreational caravan site, but a perma- nent/semi permanent site for travelling people. They have argued that this falls outside the terms of the ap
plication. The application, for the
land at the rear of the Petre Arms, was withdrawn at the previous meeting of Ribble Valley’s planning and devel opment committee.
The reasons given were
that more information about the project, which was rec ommended for approval, was required from the appli cant by officers. Objections have also been made on the
' grounds of road safety. The proposed access is off
, Whalley Road and close to a bend, and protesters argue that cars towing caravans would not have a clear view oftraffic exiting the rounda bout on the A59 and travel ling down Whalley Road. In addition, residents
have expressed fears that the proposals would cause noise pollution and an odour prob lem, as generators would be used on the site as there are no facilities for electricity, gas or water. Villagers are also con
cerned that the site would accommodate in excess ofso people, manyofwhomwould have vehicles which would have a major environmental and health and safety issue.
