youngsters. Officers, assisted

by trading stand ards and a number . of teenage volun teers, carried out a test purchase op eration on to ensure that those working in licensed premises were meeting their responsibilities to prevent under-age alcohol sales. Eight pubs were

visited in Whalley and Longridge, with five venues failing to make the necessary checks, allowing a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old-boy to buy bottles and pints of beer. Staff and the premises, licence holder for each pub will now meet with trading standards and the police, and a deci sion made about any further action. PC Ma r t i n

Midgeley, project co-ordinator for the Community Alco hol Network said: “I’m disappointed that premises are still selling alco hol to children and showing little care for age awareness. E v ery p rem ise should challenge the age of anyone who looks under 25 and enforce a no ID, no sale policy.” , He added: “'We will carry on work ing with the local authority to crack down on under-age sales and I urge any one, with concerns to contact the po lice.” ■.; Deputy leader of
