Howzat for a spruce up of our club

A GROUP of 35 sporting young sters helped give Clitheroe Cricket Club a pre-season facelift on Satur day. . Members of Clitheroe Cobras,

they were joined by their parents and six members of staff from Clit heroe’s NatWest including manager Janet Booth. Work included giving the Chat-

burn Road cricket club’s boundary wall a fresh lick of paint, general

. tidying and litter picking, clearing out the netting area and many more tasks. Part of the NatWest Cricket- Force weekend, the annual initia-

- live encourages clubs to improve their facilities and engage with the local community. To keep the workers content,

meals were provided by Sang Lee, from The Chippy, at 'Waddington Road, Clitheroe. “Sang came good on his promise

and we all enjoyed a hearty lunch,” said Farouk Hussain, chairman of Clithcroc Cobras. “There was a good family feel

to the event and all the work that needed doing was done in prepara tion for the start of the season.”

sis Room in St James’s Street on Thursday evenings from April 29th, with a free taster session on Thursday, April 22nd. The choir is being run by Clithe-

ro'e singer and voice coach Susan Sykora, who started singing pro fessionally aged 14. Susan fronted the house band at the Ritz Hotel, Manchester, for five years and is a

prolific session singer responsible for numerous television and radio advertisements. She currently per forms in the popular duo, Glory, with her husband, Duncan Sykora. Susan is also an award-winning

songwriter and was recently se lected by international song-writ ing magazine Songlink to receive songwriting coaching from Ray Davies, formerly of The Kinks. The Clitheroe Pop Choir is

aimed at teenagers and adults, and will perform a combination of pop, rock, gospel and Motown, using a state-of-the-art sound system and high-quality backing tracks. ’

Susan hopes the Clitheroe Pop

Choir will emulate the success of the London Rock Choir, which is now the largest contemporary choir in the world. She also hopes people will be inspired to join the choir by the hit film “Mamma Mia”, which saw a host of non singing A-list actors, such as Meryl Streep, Piece Brosnan and Colin Firth, singing on the silver screen. The choir will meet on Thurs

days from 8.30 to 10 p.m. at the Oa sis Room, which is at the top of St James’s Street, next to St James’s Church. For further details, call Susan on 07561 531655.
