Later in the evening, members of

the society danced the Scottish country dance “Clitheroe Castle”. ATC cadets provided an escort

for the haggis, which was piped in and addressed by Stanley Stuart. After dinner and the “Loyal

Toast”, the “Toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns” was pro posed by Ian Ross. The “Toast to the Lasses” was

proposed by Ted Carter and replied to by Mona Hilton. The toastmaster for the evening

was Allan Sowerbutts. The assem bled company then enjoyed a pro gramme of Scottish dancing, with callers Isobe! Bristow and Margaret Allan, the society’s two dance teachers. Music was provided by Malcolm

Milner and the Hoghton Scottish Country Dance Band. Our picture shows Eddie Drum

mond, the president of the Cale donian Society, handing over a cheque to the High Sheriff. (T280107/15)

Annual fair cancelled

Prove you have a heart of gold with a special bouquet

HERE is a competition which will be “heart” to beat. This heart-warming

story comes courtesy of Clitheroe’s Floral Basket. Dominating the win

dow of the family-run business in King Street is a 5ft heart made entirely of red balloons. I t took balloon artist

Donna McDonald two- and-a-half hours to inflate them and create the shape. And now she wants to

give i t away and help raise funds for charity in the process. Donna, who works at

the shop with her mum, Kathleen, and dad, Peter, said: “As well as the usual dozen red roses we deliver at Valentine’s Day, we are now delivering more and more balloon bouquets. I thought how fantastic it would be to open your door to a five foot balloon heart. Then I came up with the idea of raising much-needed funds for the British Heart Foun dation and giving the heart away as the prize.”

Clitheroe Advertiser &Times, Thursday, February 1st, 2007 19 '

To win her special

heart in time for Valen tine’s Day, all you have to do is guess how many balloons it contains. Every competition

entry must be accompa nied by a donation which will be given to the

British Heart Founda tion and entry forms are available from the shop - 23 King Street. Our photograph shows

Kathleen McDonald with the 5ft heart of bal loons.
