Boy in court for anti-social

AN 11-YEAR-OLD Clitheroe boy who became one of th e youngest in th e country to be made subject to an a n t i social behaviour ord er has been fined £20

back to his friends and the headteacher made, a complaint to the police" said Mrs Buchanan.

to solve a damp problem GOVERNORS of St Michael and St John's RC Pri mary School, in Lowergate, Clitheroe, will have to think again about ways of solving a damp problem. They applied to' planners for permission to clad
first floor gables, walls and staircase with thermo plastic panels with a stone chip finish to stop the damp penetrating upstairs walls.' But the 1904 building is inside the Clitheroe Con
servation area and Ribble Valley Borough Council Planning and Development Committee refused per-
mission. The committee said the materials would'be visually detrimental to the locality and the building.

Insp Ford said that he understood there had been a reduction in accidents on the A682 in recent times. A spokesman for Lan cashire County Council
fatal accidents recorded between 1997 and 1999, the timescale used for the nationwide study, was 20, with 13 involv ing motorcyclists. Eight incidents had proved fatal, with six of those involving cyclists. He' added th a t the .
county had carried out a "signing and lining" scheme on the highway in February 2000 in a bid to alert drivers to the road conditions: "The AA study highlights the fact that there should be partnerships between organisations like our- selyes and the local authority to do what we can to make roads safer, b u t driver behaviour plays a big part in mak ing sure roads are safe."

PUPILS of a Clitheroe School are bringing some joy to children of East ern Europe. Before they broke up for half term, pupils of Moorland School and their nursery filled 200 shoe boxes with items guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of youngsters who are poor and underprivileged.
• Under a Rotary Inter national scheme,' the children filled the boxes with toys, crayons, Lego, toothpaste, washing powder, writing paper, envelopes and pens - all items subject to dire shortage in countries such as Romania, Poland, Albania and Ukraine. Moorland principal Mrs Janet Harrison said:
attached a £1 coin to each box to pay for its transportation across
"It is nice for them to be giving rath er than receiving. I t is children helping children." The children also
