HAVING spent 30 years as the

voice of folk rock pioneers "Steeleye Span", Maddy Prior is entering the last year of the decade as a widely- acclaimed solo artist. Her 1997 album was greeted with

critical acclaim, as were the exten sive British tours that accompanied it. This year sees the release of "In the Company of Ravens", the 35th album in an amazing body of work. Maddy is joined by her musical

partners Nick Holland (keyboard, vocals) and Troy Donockley (uillean

pipes, whistle, guitars and vocals). "In the Company of Ravens" sees

Maddy working with her favourite subjects - mythology, tradition and history - blending her inspirational voice with a musical backdrop rich with colours and emotion. Her live show is a clear indication of why Maddy Prior is still one of British music's most enduring performers, now combined with perhaps the most suited collaborators of her

career. In concert the trio combine both

LOTS of treats are in store this coming week for theatre and cinemagoers. Performances will take place tonight,

tomorrow and Saturday by dance pupils of the Mary Waddington School of Dancing who will present "Wishing for Woofer" in Clitheroe Parish Church

Hall. This musical, which will be performed

by all the dance students of the school, from the tots to adults, has been written by Kirsty McKinlay, of Clitheroe. The choreography has been arranged jointly by Mrs Anne Grogan and Mrs Jean

I The storyline of the musical, which 1 will feature tap, modem and ballet danc ing together with some dialogue, tells the story of a birthday wish for a miss ing pet, so should appeal to a wide audi- ence.

Croft. Starting tomorrow at the Civic Hall .

I Cinema is "Plunkett and Macleane," starring Robert Carlyle, made famous by his role in the "Full Monty". In this film he plays one of a duo of

highway men, a gruff commoner called Will Plunkett and pretend servant of reckless aristocrat Captain James Macleane. Carlyle gets the rough end of the stick as he is forever getting left out side in the rain with the horses. Although there is some bad language, the movie has few flaws. It is more a col lection of great scenes than a com- pellingly coherent drama. EVENTS - MAY 7TH TO 1:JTH
