Judith Hilchcn says that the chamber has been putting bunting up for at least 15 years. “It first went up to coincide with royal visits from Prin cess Margaret and Prince Charles,” she says. “The chamber received a letter of congratulation from Princess Margaret which stated how nice the town looked with the bunting. As a result, it waR suggested we made it an annual event and it goes up from May lo September. Over the years, it has cost the chamber in the region of £6,000. Judging by the majority response, it is greatly appreciated, especially by visitors. The hunting is put up, stored and paid for by the chamber and is due to come down on Sunday, weather permitting”.
