Weather fails to dampen
spirits at Chipping show Sports cancelled but everything else goes ahead
Story by Vivien Meath Photos by John Barry
AFTER weeks of sun, the rain managed to dominate Chipping ana District Agricultural
and Horticultural Society’s 69th show. Farming folk, however, are not deterred by wet weather. Most were ready and waiting to welcome it, and it certainly failed to mar an extremely successful event. Other than the cancellation of the children’s sports, everything went ahead as planned, Due u ndoubtetedly to the weather,
was not exceptional, with a gate of 560 considered to be around average, but entries were up in the cat tle and poultry sections. There was something for everyone on the show

the heavy horse drawn turnouts, with the Shetland pony section popular again with owners and
the cheese section was re-introauced last year, although it was affected by the closure of Dairy Crest and Wolfen Mill, Greenfields. The hounds and whips of the Holcombe Hunt gave a spectacular display in the main ring. A tug-of-war,
