CRGS old boy tells of career climb
THE Solicitor Gen e ral , Si r Derek Spencer, presented the third annual Old Clitheronians’ Lec ture at CRGS.
Sir Derek talked to an audience of 100 about his d is t in g u ish ed legal career, as well as the history behind the posi tion of Solicitor General. His interesting lecture spanned an hour and a half and was sprinkled w i t h hu m or o u s anecdotes.
Afterwards, he spent 20 p minutes answering
impromptu questions in formidable detail.

Born in Waddington, Sir Derek attended Clith eroe Royal Grammar School from 1947 to 1954, proving himself both a scholar and s p o r t sm a n . A f te r attending Keble College, Oxford, he began his legal career.
